Re: Pure Gas Stations

Dave -

Thanks for clarifying that, I like knowing the bigger picture. My information was a tad out of date.

Re: Pure Gas Stations

The only purpose of high octane gasoline is to prevent engine damage from knocking under high temperature (summer, track), high pressure (super/turbo charging) conditions. The engine won't adjust the fuel economy or power based on different octane ratings. For one thing, I'm not aware of any instrum...

Re: October Shop Day

It runs perfectly. The supercharger whines just a bit earlier, in a good way! It is smooth and seems quicker, as long as I'm not trying to show two friends (in the car) how fast it is....

It is by far my favorite car, and it just got better.

Re: October Shop Day

That was awesome, and much appreciated. My Mini now has a new (unplanned) motor mount that doesn't leak, a new belt, new plugs and a new SC pulley.

Thanks to Dave, Don and Zach.

OK, thanks, no new plug wires.

I'm the new guy, so I'm in for the Krispy Kremes and coffee.

Re: October Shop Day

What is the consensus on replacing plug wires when you replace plugs? Overkill?

I'm not planning on doing plug wires, unless there is some reason why I should....

Re: October Shop Day

Ok, I found out that I don't have to be on the K-State bus until 3 pm, so I'm in. I'm replacing the belt and reducing the pulley and doing plugs (I just ordered the basic Way Motor Works package).

Any help from a previous pulley pull party participant is appreciated!

Thanks.

Re: October Shop Day

Sorry I can't make it this Saturday, I'm headed up to K-State for a visit.

I look forward to next time. Meanwhile, I'm making two lists: 60,000 mile maintenance items, and favorite doughnut toppings.

Re: Garage Day Anyone?

Sorry I missed it also....I had my grey MCS at Butl3r Collision and Damage this week, and I wasn't sure it would be ready by today. The hammered out my rear quarter panel (it had been backed into from the side) and repainted. I picked them because of feedback from the club, and it turned out fantast...

That looks fantastic.

Where do you get the stripes? I didn't realize this was something you could do yourself. How long does it take, and how easy is it to get it right?

If there are not going to be any brake pad/rotor replacements, then I can't lend in with my new experience!

I may limit my involvement to popping in to see the crankshaft seal on LaDonna. Any guess what time that might come up? 10 am ish?

I can help on the rear.brakes. I also want to witness the crank sensor install. I may be a future candidate.

Re: Brakes! Git'cher Brakes here!

Ok, I can testify to the complete awesomeness of Garage Day. I had two experienced members (Boxer and Davester) helping me, and I ended up with perfectly mounted rotors, pads, and sensors. On top of that, we bled the brakes, so I have fresh fluid too. As I drove home I thought about how many hours o...

Re: Brake pad replacement

One other question, by "ECS" brake pads, did you mean from ECS Tuning:
http://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2006-Coop ... king/Pads/

or did you mean EBC Green?

Thanks.

Re: Brake pad replacement

Dave - I have about 55,000 miles on my car, so I am planning to just do all four at once. I suppose if had 50% left on the rears I will wonder if that was a good idea. Thanks for the great pad advice, I guess I will go with ECS Green. I am a bit tired of all the brake dust on my wheels. I noticed th...

Re: Brake pad replacement

Hi, my name is Eric Ronning. I have a 2006 MCS and my brake pad warning light just came on today, so I guess I am in for some fun. I have several questions about pads and rotors. I have been pretty happy with the brakes, but I wouldn't mind a no-additional-complexity, moderately higher cost improvem...

Re: Supercharger Belt Tensioning tool

Dave -

Three questions:
1) What is the service interval on SC belt replacements?
2) How long does it take (and degree of difficulty)?
3) Is the 15 percent pulley upgrade easy to do at the same time?
Thanks.
