Re: Project Rocky Build Up

I had, and sold, the forge BOV adapter. Found a Defenders of Speed V1 intake instead (pokes through the inner bulkhead and draws air from below the windshield as well as through the stock snorkel). It's quite a bit more dramatic noise wise than the bov adapter - whistles, howls, and sneezes. I would...

Re: ECU Tune on 2010 Clubman S

Well, I bit the bullet and went with the Manic tune from M7. I sent the ECU to them yesterday. In about a week I should be able to provide a fresh perspective on an ECU tune. Thanks, Steve I would be interested to hear what you think of it. I'm still considering switching. Did you go with the SPS a...

Re: ECU Tune on 2010 Clubman S

Steve, I have used an Alta/Cobb AccessPort on my 2010 R56S for several years now. I typically run the mildest tune, set up for a stock car on 91 octane, though I ran the 93 octane tune for a while and was filling up at BPs only. The AP comes with a dozen or so tunes for various levels of mods. It pr...

Re: Mini Countryman 2017

I have only traded in 1 car and I regretted it after. For what they gave me, I should have kept it with only bare bones insurance for a parts runner. With that being said, though, your MINI is worth a lot more than my wife's Cavalier was when we traded it in. I've had good luck selling all of my oth...

I'll probably pull it this weekend and see what I can see without a borescope. I have the DoS intake so that is already out of the way and the mani is easy to get to.

Re: Carboned Up Intake Valves

I think it is time for me to clean my valves. I am getting a somewhat regular stumble and cloud of black smoke when I quickly roll into the throttle around 3k rpm (3rd or 4th gear usually). The previous owner had the blasting done at Baron at 38k and I have 67k on the car now. I'm running a lower vo...

Re: Electrical issues - possible FRM

Agreed! Likely 1500-2000 otherwise. Was, indeed, the FRM. Cost me $0 to replace, but I did have them do several other items (oil change, brake fluid, serpentine), so it still cost me $400. Got a clubman all4 as a loaner for the day. Wow! The F series are quite a bit different than my R56S. Not sure ...

Re: Electrical issues - possible FRM

Checked battery and alternator voltages. All good. No codes in the ECM. Did some research and looks like BMW has an extended limited warranty for the FRM. Called up Baron and gave them the VIN. They confirmed there is, indeed, an ELW for up to 8 years and 125k miles for MINIs as well. My build date ...

Electrical issues - possible FRM

Started the car and headed towards work this morning. Got less than 100 ft and had several lights pop up: A red service indicator, Then yellow door ajar, Then light bulb out. These cycled over and over my entire drive. I checked the doors...all good. Didn't check the others out. Car was driving fine...

Re: Adjustable clutch stop and sprintbooster

An alternative veiwpoint: I installed the BMS clutch stop as one of my first mods and very much recommend it. The clutch pedal had too much travel between disengaging and bottoming out on the floor for my taste. I have set up previous cars, with adjust-ability on the clutch master cylinder, to relea...

Re: Concours D'Elegance car show, Crown Center, Saturday May

Is it just the hospitality event that costs money or does the show cost money as well? The flyer doesn't give any specifics. Looks like the show is no cost per the last paragraph on the flyer . Sounds like fun but I will be birthday partying with my daughter that day Blame that on my lack of readin...

Re: Horrible Gas Mileage

I debate the ETOH vs ETOH free with a Subaru driving coworker. He prefers the 91 ETOH free. I prefer 93 octane, but with ETOH. The stations near me, the ETOH free is considerably more expensive, but a dedicated pump whereas I have to use the shared nozzle for my 93 (so how much 87 octane am I gettin...

Dont know as much about your vehicle, but the DDMWorks might be a good option. I'm sure WMW or another quality vendor could point you in the right direction. http://www.waymotorworks.com/ddmworks-cooper-intake-r55-r56-r57.html Edit: Actually, most things I am seeing on Way's site only say 2008-2010 ...

Re: choking mini

Based on other issues, I would suspect battery as well. If it happens below freezing, it could be water in the throttle body as well. This will through some errors around throttle mismatch usually. Fix is to clean the water (from the PCV system) out of the throttle body. The R56 (at least the S mode...

Re: Haven't done a Garage Day for a long time

Is it typical to do rotors along with brakes on these cars or only as needed? I have fairly new rotors with about 15k on a set of pads that are awful. Thinking of doing pads only and leaving the rotors alone.

Also, are the sensors on the R56 salvageable if the pads are not worn down?

Thanks, Chris

You going to take any performance metrics before/after? Dyno run perhaps? Maybe race as quick as you can down Dave's street before/after?....wait, don't do that. It would end garage days for good.

Re: Haven't done a Garage Day for a long time

I am due for an oil change, v-belt, and cabin filter. Also have a downpipe calling me. I can handle all these at home though (maybe not oil change - just don't like messing with it). Also will look at brake pads sometime soon. Mine squeal like no other and make a ton of dust even though they have li...
