Re: Knock sensor on R56S

Autocross is something I have wanted to do for 14 years and just never have! I may need to come out and witness an event or 2 this season then maybe I will try my hand at it. The local region does several novice schools that are an awesome time to try it. For $70-80 you get time Saturday to practic...

Re: Knock sensor on R56S

I've never come across that data myself. You might be able to find out the sensor make and find the specs online. I've tried to see the knock sensors via OBDII and haven't had any luck. The AP has been the only device that's shown it. During hot autocrosses I've seen a few Mini's throw the super-kno...

Re: Project OVRKLL

Was doing inventory yesterday and discovered the Innovate MTX gauges will not work as expected. I was hoping to daisy chain them together and pull the data into my OBDII/iPhone app. The MTX gauges are nice and would work individually but not for what I'm wanting. Instead I'm switching the the PLX De...

Re: Project OVRKLL

Had an interesting Facebook discussion over the weekend about N14 JCW vs N18 header. Arric from JM Turbo Cooper prefers the non-JCW header: Although I really don't like the gen 2 JCW manifold. Port 1(on right) is huge and port 4 is really small so you have both high and low velocity air mixing in th...

Re: Project OVRKLL

The Bilstein PSS10s will be coming off with less than 2000 miles on them in March-April. They are a nice setup for anyone wanting easy adjustments and a progressive ride (the are progressive sprints FWIW). Really tempted to sell the swifts and koni yellows I bought from you last fall and put these ...

Here's the suspension I will be moving to. I've offered to write their iPhone app in exchange for discount :D http://hancheyvehicletech.com/tractive-suspension-by-hvt.html You can program the suspension to behave differently on constant radius turns vs slaloms vs sharp uphill turns. The Bilstein PSS...

Re: Project OVRKLL

John, have you done any baseline dyno runs? Yes, I've done a base line dyno at 1400miles (Dyno0), then with Stage 3 AP (Dyno1), and then with my Jan/RMW tune(Dyno2). http://www.mobilezamboni.com/images/Dyno0.jpg http://www.mobilezamboni.com/images/Dyno1.jpg http://www.mobilezamboni.com/images/Dyno2...

Re: Project OVRKLL

Got the garage and work bench dug out. MaxJax arrives Monday and hopefully the car goes up by the weekend. Many of the parts are getting delayed by the weather. A few items are on back order or taking the slow boat from China, literally. Up first will be LSD and Clutch. With the subframe out I'll do...

Re: MINI going to Baron tomorrow

Cleaned it out all out. Said there was moisture in the throttle body which I have a hard time believing after a 35 min drive at 225F engine temps. No luck on the new manifold. Maybe I didn't insist enough. Going to look and see which one I have but it is too dark out now :) Baron is a good group, b...

Feel free to ask questions and post thoughts. I'm not against that. It's the 'bigger turbos don't work' and 'N14 is a glass engine' crowd that has me not sharing outside this private forum. The 3"->2.5" downpipe seemed to make sense as if you are getting the best of both a 3" and 2.5&...

While I'm not documenting Taz's transformation on NAM or Motoring Authority, I'd like to share it here. Too many know it alls, or people saying it can't be done on those public forums. So when it's all said and done, here's what I want to have done: Engine Mods: -Battle Tuning/DNA Stage 4 tune - Don...

Re: oil pan baffles

In high G cornering all the oil in the pan can be pushed to the outside of the pan by centripetal force. Since the oil pickup is in the center of the pan, it can end up being left high and dry. Now some cars have a worse issue than others, and normally it isn't an issue even with most autocrossing M...

oil pan baffles

Posted this over on KCRSCCA too, but looking to add a couple baffles to my oil pan.

Has anyone else done this? Know of someone who can do it?

Of course this is coming from the guy trying for max power... Been driving the loaner Mini and I get now why they don't do more power. The current R56 is dialed in to where you can drive it like you stole it and not be punished. It makes you feel like you are driving harder and faster than you reall...

This year I will be at HPT. Going to try for at least 3 events if not more. Is the schedule out yet? If I don't get them on my calendar, coworkers will book out my Wednesdays. Once I switched to the coilovers my snap oversteer became much reduced. My still need to have softer adjustments welded to t...

Good lord that is a ton of work. Good luck! Yeah and the work list is getting longer...but the results should be EPIC! Thanks for the tips Dave. Work will be done at home in the garage as nothing ever goes as planned. It can sit on stands a few weeks if it gets really out of hand. Taz has been regulated to garage queen (er king?) status. I never remember to take pictures. I have a camera mount on my helmet, maybe I'...
