Re: Project OVRKLL

Went for a longer drive last night and I was finally able to get rid of the Limp Mode issue. It was related to a 3rd party diverter valve I installed. Either it wasn't assembled correctly or it doesn't like the N18 turbo housing. Technically the GFB DV+ is only for the N14 right now. Kicker is I had...

Re: Project OVRKLL

IT'S ALIVE! Around 10 last night we finally got the wheels and bumper back on for a quick spin around the block... one final insult... Did you know the the side marker lights and the horns have the exact same harness plug! So flip the lights on in the drive and HONK! Took it around the block a...

Re: Project OVRKLL

Warranties are made to be broken! It all depends on the problem I'm having. If it seems like the HPFP is failing, I'd take it to Baron since there is a history of those failing and they have their own separate warranty. Also it seems Baron is much more accommodating of modifications recently. Heck t...

Given we get the new clutch plate in this afternoon, I will hopefully will be able to make at least one of the stops. Need to break in the clutch :D

Re: Post clutch install issues

Hard to correctly install the wrong clutch. Turns out either OS Giken or RMW sent me a R53 kit. The noises we heard where the larger r53 splines spinning on top of the smaller r56.

Re: Post clutch install issues

Seems like this could be 'normal'. It turns out the OSGs have an all metal TO bearing and it presses against metal fingers on the the clutch cover. So the sound of tin cans in a dryer can be expected when the clutch pedal is full press down... Or at least that the consensus after some googling and y...

Re: Post clutch install issues

Spent the day removing everything and starting from scratch. Confirmed clutch was assembled per OS Giken's instructions. Reassembled and bleed the system per Dave's guide. Things seemed to be going back together smoother than 1st time, but then about 5-6 seconds after starting the car we hear a horr...

Clutch alignment tool?

Per Baron, they only come with new OEM kits, but wondering if anyone has the tool from a previous install.

Post clutch install issues

First big snafu of project OVRKLL. We did the OS Giken STR install, but now the car will not go into gear. -We made sure to get the throw out bearing installed per the little note OSG puts in the box. -Checked the flywheel bolt length and it seemed fine. Bolted on with no issues. Car idles and revs ...

Re: Project OVRKLL

We were SO close to having the car put back together and puttering around the neighbor hood. But a slowly growing list of 'not quite rights' have appeared. First was another gotcha with having the N18 turbo housing. Turns out its 4mm wider so none of my intake hoses fit right. Clearances around the ...

Re: Project OVRKLL

Problem with trying to do so much at once...wrong parts, missing parts, and broken parts. While the motor and transmission is all back together I've had issues with places sending me N18 parts instead of N14. Slowly getting sorted out, but slowing things down as I'd rather wait a day for the part vs...

Re: Project OVRKLL

Well thanks to some superhero efforts from my brother yesterday the clutch, transmission, and subframe are all back in and on the car. Amazing what a properly motivated 20 year old can do with an engine hoist and a couple hydraulic lifts. So now I have to just get all the intake and IC piping put ba...

Re: Project OVRKLL

Not sure what I will do with the seats. I did pull off some of the wiring harnesses and kept the seatbelt components. But with someone's original seats they could be retrofitted with minimal effort. They are the redlined lounge leather with heaters. I talk like I could put the car back to stock, but...

Re: Project OVRKLL

Well it has been slow going. Part of it has been just taking our time (younger brother helping), learning as we go. Also having to put out work fires, make parts/tool runs, address contractor issues at the house...you know life keep interrupting the wrenching! Didn't hit the first big snag unt...

Re: Tires, Tyres, Tars

Zack, thanks but I don't like black wheels....and I'm not up for painting/refinishing either..... For summer only tires, what would you guys suggest as the best compromise of performance for the bux? What's your budget? How long to you want them to last, i.e are you ok with 200 tread wear? I'm real...

Re: Project OVRKLL

Well the seats are installed. Talk about a PITA. Given the space and multi-use brackets there was only one way to install them...took awhile to figure it out. I'm still currently getting an airbag/restraint warning light even though I did the resistor install as documented by others. I didn't reinst...

Re: Tires, Tyres, Tars

Since you run at HPT, why not make the most of it by getting some nice summer/track tires? As far as snow or all season...I'd go DWS again for winter tires and drive the wife's Audi if it was really bad. Also if you burn through the summer/track tires you have all-season back ups. If I did snow tire...

Re: Project OVRKLL

The lift is in! Wasn't too bad to get setup. Getting the garage door raised higher and motor moved so any clearance issues will be going away. A few that I'm not happy with. 1) The front to back room isn't what I hoped. We installed the lift a bit further forward so we could get my brothers car on i...

Re: Carboned Up Intake Valves

I hope to get some pictures of the valves during the tear down in the next week or so. I'm going to have the header off...why not reach around and take the intake side off too. I bought the intake rubber band/gaskets just incase. I've had water meth on the car since 1200 miles and have had it sprayi...

and instead of a 30 second run like in AutoX That is location dependent but even with smaller sites like MCC, we still see 45-60 seconds per run. 4-5 runs per event. At larger national events it can easily be 70 second courses. you run 20 minute sessions, which gives you a chance to learn more, and...
