Engine cranks but won't start

Post by customsnow »

I recently changed my timing chain and water pump, everything seemed to go according to plan until it was time to start it up and got nothing.

I did use cam shaft locks to keep timing in check.

The engine turns by hand with no noises other than valves opening and closing.

No compression issues, I have checked that.

Smelling fuel as well.

All fuses appear to be good and fuel pump relay sounds like it is working.

Any help would be appreciated.

2007 Mini Cooper S
No mods.

I should be working on it all weekend minus the KU game tomorrow.

Im located in lawrence and any and all help is appreciated and will be rewarded with beer and pizza .

I knew I forgot to post something, as far as I know yes.

I used a tester to make sure the coil packs were firing and they were.

I replaced the plugs as well but have tried both old and new.

I just pull a plug wire off and hold it near a ground and see if I get a good spark, assuming you did that it sounds like you have a timing issue then.....and I have no idea how to help you with that, other than to offer the use of one of the club's service manuals....we have both the Haynes and the Bentley. I'm in OP, if you want to borrow one, just PM me and I'll send you the address and phone and we'll set up a time to pick it up.

That's what I was thinking was timing and fortunately i do have a bentley and Haynes. I'll hopefully report back with good news. Thanks

It runs!

We think the VANOS unit was torqued prior to tensioning the chain.
