Better Traction for My 2011 Clubman.

Post by CowboyCoop »

So My question. Last year I put a sand tube in the back of my 2012 Clubman for the Winter to hopefully get better traction, as I have a very steep driveway and a 26 mile round trip to work. My goal this year is to add 2 Tubes of sand, and only put in my clubman when it is Icy, and, or snow. I know that I have a front wheel drive, and I realize, I am affecting my gas mileage. Does adding 2 Sand tubes this year really going to help me, for better traction? I have all season tires 17" wheels, Your input and advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also what about a 2011 Mini Convertible with winter tires.

They would only help if you put them on the hood :D

Putting them in the trunk actually hurts your ability to go, by shifting the weight balance backward. You're better off without them.

If you're not getting around well with your all seasons, you need better winter tires, as in some Blizzaks.

I have my 15" Original Tires with Rims setting in my basement, My All Season 17' tires with rims on my Clubman. Could I Switch out the front tires only, and put snow tires on them and keep the All Seasons in back? Funds are limited. And 3 sets of tires is crazy. Not including the summer set of tires setting in Basement for the Convertible. HELP!

No, the different sizes will mess with the computer, don't do it......plus too and also, the handling will be terrible right when you need it to be predictable and neutral. Unless we have really deep snow, which ever set of tires has the deepest tread should do the trick nicely, and if we have really deep snow? Stay home!

If your commute and job requirements mandate that you travel regardless of weather conditions, then the best advice might be to invest in a set of winter tires for the 15" wheels.
