Oil Leak

Post by DSKSMini »

Spotted an oil leak when looking under the car today. Can't see it too well without getting it up on a lift or something, but it seems to be on the passemger side above and to the rear of the oil pan. Tensioner? Anybody seen this before on a R56? It was over a Qt low a couple of weeks ago and I topped it off and it wasn't down much if any today but I may have overfilled a bit last time (wasn't thinking it was on a bit of an incline at the time). Any thoughts appreciated.

Yes, check the chain tensioner, some of those were prone to backing out and dumping all of the oil.....it's on the right side rear of the cylinder head, just put a socket or wrench on it and tighten it up good.

if that's not it, I'm not sure what it could be......but check that first, it's easiest.

Thanks Dave! Looks like the problem.

Here's a pic (sorry for the poor quality). I don't think that guy should be caked with oil!
