New to Forum/ Re-Striping the mini

Post by stan360 »

Hello, many thanks to MiniDave for directing me to this forum !

Jumping in with this weekends project. I had to have the front end of the 05 painted as my son fell on the bonnet with his bike and put a knee into the lower aero grill. That was a time consuming project (as I am sure those of you that have modified the stock R53 bumper cover to install the areo grill already know ) but now I was given a second chance to perfect that. Ha!

The bonnet was factory striped when I got the auto and so I picked up some replacement OEM stripes from ECS , but ruined them almost instantly. They are very thin. I ordered some stripes from Stripe My Mini, and these were much more cost effective and a bit thicker....and about a 1/2" wider ( even though they claim to be the factory size). These go on smooth but came prepared with black pinstriped edges. I peeled that off so I could insure a good application on the white stripe and then picked up some black pin striping and also a small silver stripe for experimental accent.

I was happy with the results , and picked up extra stripes for the boot.

Welcome Stan, glad you found us!

Stripes turned out terrific - great to see the classic in the garage next to the MINI!

Thanks Dave... The stripes went on pretty easy the second time around . I was upset to ruin those factory stripes but hey, it worked out good.

I have been having a lot of fun tearing around L-town in the 78. My wife already named it Toby, so I do not have a say in that. So as soon as the weather turns a bit I will start disassembling Toby for Dan to his magic on in the spring. :-D

Well, since Toby runs and is drivable, you should come with us on our Classic Mini fun run in Nov to Branson! Nov 5,6,7,8 are the dates.

Also a few of us are caravanning down to Garnett for the grand prix event on Sunday, PM me if you want to meet up.

Stripes look good but the classic steals the show. Welcome!
