Post by Minidave »

We've had a couple of enquiry's for a shop day, we have a couple of folks who need brakes and there may be an oil change or two out there that's needs doing, so pick a date and let me know and we'll get it set up.

I know MiniMax says he needs rear brakes, and Dimini's SIL also needs brakes. A few weeks ago someone else said they needed them all around too.

So sign up here those who need work done!

UPDATE!

Sept 8 was agreed upon, so that's the date. 9am start time

We'll be at MiniDave's MINIshop, so if anyone needs directions or phone number, PM me please.

As always, new guy brings the Krispy Kremes and coffee!

Everyone be sure to pick up or order your parts ahead of time!

Whomever is coming, please post here so I can get a headcount.

I need brake fluid still, and an oil change.

Sept 8th should work for me.

@GrayGuy, I have 2 bottles of transaxle fluid that I haven't used, it's yours for $20 if you haven't gotten any yet. This is what I have.. http://www.waymotorworks.com/redline-mtl.html

New brakes on a 2011 car? Aren't you still under the maint agreement? Or do you have over 36k miles already?

Be sure to pick up or order your parts ahead of time, if you're not going to use factory MINI parts from Baron, there might be some shipping delay, due to the upcoming holiday. I do recommend using the factory oil filter, it also comes with the new o-ring and drain plug seal, and you can pick up your oil while you're there if you want. As long as I'm in warranty I like to use factory parts, as there can't be any finger pointing if something goes wrong that I want them to cover.

Also, buy new brake wear sensors front and rear - 1 each.

If you buy at Baron, let them know you're in the KC MINI club and they'll discount the parts.

Zack, we can do your sway bar.

We also could do it at JCCC if you want to trust me with it. I'm always looking for work for my class.

What happened to Blueberry and her window motor? She needed help from someone who has done this before. Does anyone have knowledge of this job?

Yes, I saw that and before I could post a reply it seems to be gone, maybe she got it working with the old "Fonzi" move? We can check it out, I don't know if she'll want to ante up for a new window motor, but we might be able to help it by cleaning the brush dust out, much like I do on the power steering motors.

BB, if you still need help plan on coming and let us know ahead of time, OK?

EDIT: Or was it in another thread?

I really need to do my brakes. I ordered my brake rotors and pads from British Atlantic. They said I do not need sensors unless my brake light on the dash is on, if you think I need sensors I could stop at Baron. I'm not sure I know the pm. I do want to do my brakes my email is duhgrif@msn.com. Thanks for the help. Greg

You are on the list Greg, do you need directions to my shop? If so, PM me....

If your brakes are that worn, the light should be on,, but sometimes the sensors don't work - I took my car to Baron and they insisted the light would be on if I needed brakes, I finally conviced them to just LOOK at them and that's when they discovered the sensor must not be working - cause I sure as heck needed pads!

It's very difficult to disconnect the sensor from the pad without breaking it, but worst case you'll be driving with the "I need new pads" light on till you can change it. Baron is open on Sat till 3pm if we need parts and my shop is less than 3 miles from them.

Aren't you at 55K miles?

Or did you buy the extended maint package?

I don't what happened to my other post. But my dad and I figured out how to take the door panel off and knocked 3 times above the speaker.
It's magically started to work again, That was last weekend and it's been working since then.

I am not going to be able to make it to shop day on Sept. 8 but will try to come on the next shop day.
Thanks.

Good news!

You used the "Fonzi" trick!

It may keep going for quite a while, or it may stop working tomorrow, you never know with those!

If it quits again you can try to bump it again, buy a new replacement motor and lift assy, or sometimes it's effective to take the motor out and clean it out.

Let us know if we can help in the future, OK?

I'm reconfirming that I'll be there with my son in-law to replace fr/r brake pads & sensors. He's coaching a baseball game that afternoon so I'm hoping to bribe folks with donuts or bagels so we can an early spot in the line-up. Parts are purchased. I'm on no deadline so I can hang out and lend a hand with other projects.

I'll bring my floor jack.

If you wanna be first in the shop, be first TO the shop!

Worst case, you can send him off in your car and take his later when it's done.

Good idea on the jack, might bring some stands too, we'll probably need extras.

If we're going to do two sets of brakes at the same time in my little shop, may I suggest one car works on the fronts while the other works on the rears, that way we'll be out of each other's way.

I would love to be involved, but I will be on vacation that weekend. If the work can be spread over a couple weekends, I can be available this Saturday to help.
