Heartland Park Touring Laps April 10, 2013

Post by Minidave »

The first event of the 2013 season is coming up quickly, Wed April 10th!

It would be great to have 10 -12 MINIs to go play with on the track, who wants to go????

For those who haven't been before, the requirements are pretty light, all you need is a car in good condition, good tires and brakes, seatbelts intact and so on. The only other requirement is to have a current Snell rated helmet. Check the HPT website for the current rating required.

The dates for this year are....

April 10

May 8

June 12

August 14

Sept 11

Oct 9

Your car also has to have current registration and insurance, proof of insurance needs to be shown at tech.

We've had some terrific fun running this track, there are three classes available, Novice, Intermediate and Advanced. I tend to run the intermediate class mostly because that way I don't have to be looking out for as many Corvettes and Vipers trying to pass me!

Online registration is $135 this year, $150 at the track. Tech opens at noon, and first cars are on track at 1pm. The track is open till dusk and you will get all the track time you can stand!

As usual we'll meet at the Legends for an early lunch around 10:30, then caravan up to the track and get ready for tech. Weather is supposed to be perfect, sunny and cool!

Go here to register, and let's go feed that need for speed!

So does the registration fee let you go all those dates?

Seriously?

No, it lets you go to one of them.....

Still, really cheap track time and worth every penny.

You need a current rated Snell helmet, but no other racing equipment is needed.

Yes that was a serious question. I don't know anything about heartland park and from what I read it seemed like a "membership"

Sorry if you thought it was a dumb question.

Well, you could go to the website I posted and learn all about it, but there is no membership requirement - you just pay for each session you attend.

Come with us, we'll show you the whole setup - you'll have a ball!

Don't forget, spectators are free - for anyone who would like to just cruise up with us and check it out.

I did go to the website. Read through stuff for about 20 minutes. From what I understood, looking like the fee was for a membership. And I thought that was a heck of a deal! Time to hunt down a helmet. And try to get my sway bar on by then

I will see what the funds look like.

Please note all Touring Laps sessions are only held on Wed......

There is no membership fee, and the helmet requirement is stated on their website, I believe it now has to be Snell 2005 and newer, most motorcycle helmets do not meet the requirement because they are not fire rated, so check your helmet before you sign up.

New helmets can be had for reasonable money...I bought mine from soloracer.com

BTW Derek, Hagar's car is a Justa like yours, only his is a CVT......he runs every summer with us and has about 200K on his car now!

For your first session you don't need to worry about your sway bar, all you need to do is concentrate on learning your line and braking points, paying attention to the flag stations, watching for cars trying to pass you and a whole host of other things - you'll be far too busy to pay any attention to your sway bar!

Weather's calling for a 44* high temp, strong T-storms and an 80% chance of rain on Wed, I think I'm going to move my reservation to the May event.

That way it wil be nice and clear on Wed!

I sent an email from their website, and I check marked the box for it to send a copy to me......haven't seen anything yet, so if I don't by tomorrow morning, I'll be making a phone call to follow up.

I'm not big on driving a three hour round trip plus taking a day off from work fer nuttin!

Remember that year when five out of the seven dates were rained out? The weather's always a crap shoot in the spring.....

Given the snap oversteer issue I had at autoX last weekend, I wasn't going to sign up until I get that sorted

HPT told me on the phone this morning that if you had already signed up but didn't show up to participate, they would credit you automatically to a future Touring Laps event. Just bring your unused ticket. I think I will still call them before the next event to let them know I plan to show up. George
