April Shop Day - April 20th 9am

Post by Minidave »

There have been some murmurings about the next shop day, so I thought I'd start a thread to see who needs to do what, and when you guys want to get together. I'm pretty much wide open date wise.....

Now that winter has finally been banished, I'm sure there are some guys who want to get their winter tires off, change oil and so on to get ready for summer, so lets get a list started and a date picked out, OK?

I'm getting ready to do the walnut shell blast on my intake valves, and I'm ready for plugs, air filter, cabin filter and such.

Who's coming so far.........

I will bring my radiator test kit to leave for the shop as well.

Believe I have some air tools to donate from my wannabe mechanic days.

My dad and I are wanting to bring my sister's 05 MCS down for shop day...It is needing the coolant changed and we feeling like the supercharger fluid needs to addressed as well.

Changing the coolant is no big deal, but changing the supercharger oil is a major disassembly job. Why do you feel it needs that looked at? How many miles are on it?

Buy a gallon of coolant from MINI before you come down, it's the best stuff to use.

around 64,000
I dont think we are having any problems with it...was told it would be a good idea to get it changed around 60k
Maybe it can wait for another time. It does need an oil change as well, I have a MINI filter and will get the oil.

Put us down for a coolant fluid change and an oil change.

Thanks!

Yeah, at 64K you don't need to worry about it.

Coolant and oil it is.

Oh those are fun. Actually that was the most invasive work I've ever done on my car and was pretty proud of the final result.

Count me in as a helper for now. I don't think I have anything Earth-shattering on the Mini right now.

(EDIT) Actually if ksminiman isn't available before then we can do an oil change on my car. He had an extra filter he was going to give me. I'll check with him this week. Also might want to get the Alta Lightbar finally lit if it is possible to help me wire that sucker up. I think I'm going to save that one for ksminiman if he has time this month or next since he has the harnesses for everything.

Dunno if they will work. You have a Peugeot engine and I'm running the Chrysler Tritec. Can anyone confirm if the filters will work?

Is MINI part# 11427512446 the correct OEM oil filter for an 05 MCS?
I bought these 2 oil filters a while back and was not able to use it on my 03 MC because it didn't fit into the oil filter canister.
I am hoping I can use them for the 2005.

Yes, according to Real Oem, that's the right number for a Cooper S R53.

I was hoping a shop day was coming up. I only need an oil change and tire rotation. (I'll bring extra shop towels to donate :) ). I can bring an OBD2 code reader if anyone needs it. I will going to the dragon the next weekend (and hiking for two weeks on the AT).

I would like to complete an oil change, and talk about a list of things to address on my '05 JCW.

Currently, I'm running MobilSyn 5W30 or 5W40. Keep running it or p/u OEM oil and the filter @ Baron? What quantity of oil?

Mobil 1 5W30 is fine, but I would use the factory OEM oil filter from the dealer.

I buy the 5 qt jug at Wal Mart or Costco, that's more than enough.

We're just about full up for this session, anyone else?
