Yep, we're gonna do it again!

This year's Classic Mini Fun Run will be over spring break - March 17-23, although exact dates haven't been ironed out yet, so if you have a preference and would like to join us, chime in here. We generally go for 3-4 days, and they can be anytime from the 13th to the 24th.

UPDATE: We're going down Thursday March 20th and returning Sunday March 23rd

Update #2 - We're booked into the Wagon Wheel!

Update # 3 - Meet at Krispy Kreme at 105th & Metcalf at 9 am for departure to Cuba

This "event" (event is a bit of a misnomer, since it's just a bunch of guys hooning around the roads of south east Missouri) is open to anyone with a Classic Mini but limited to 10 cars.

Right now we have

MiniX2............Cooper S :ps:

MiniManic........Cooper S :indi:

Dimini............P'up :chili:

Don Ruder.......P'up :ds:

John K...........Cooper S :chili: (if it's done - a BIG maybe)

John.............Cooper S :brg: (maybe)

MiniDave........Clubman :lyellow:

so we still have several spots open if you'd like to come along.

Here's a short vid to show what the terrain and roads look like..

Why don't you have Jim join the forum, then he can get all the updates direct and get to know some of us a bit too.

Also, what color is his P'up?

His drive will only be about 1 hour longer than ours to get there, btw.

Did you watch the vid? Good roads there! :)

Is that a vinyl roof, or plasti-dip?

Vinyl

His wife spotted this one in Florida during a visit. He drove down and trailered it back. It was a bit of a wreck before he got a hold of it. I think the original color was white.

That looks like a lot of fun. Too bad I don't have a classic Mini. Just an '06 Cooper S. We should do one of these for all Mini's some time.

Maybe you can rent Stephanie's classic mini for the week 8)

To anyone who does have a classic, this is an amazing place to run the wee beasties....the roads twist and turn and roll like a roller coaster, but they're mostly very smooth and very lightly trafficked so we can run together and chase each other over hill and dale. There are lots of scenic places to stop and get out to stretch, lots of little towns for photo ops or to get a drink or bite to eat and all in all it's just a fun run!

(Hence the name :D )

We're not out to set any speed records and the turns are tight enough to make it plenty of fun, even at Mini speeds. Living in the land of grids, it's a chance to get out and go around some corners! Image

We still have three spots available, so get the word out to anyone you know with a classic....still plenty of time to get time off arranged if needed too.

Here are a few pics from some of our previous runs......

My week is open for this awesome adventure. If I had a vote for this trip, I vote for a midweek departure. Either Wednesday or Thursday (19th-20th) and come back during the weekend.

Being that I have the entire week off, I can adjust to the majority rule!!

Yes, I'd love to do that one, but I'm in school that week and it just takes too long to drive there to let me do it, maybe next year. My son lives in Phoenix and has a 2004 JCW, so I could stay at his place and we could do this run together, but not this year.

Two more pics....we had a couple of interlopers....

OK, need a group decision on lodging and I'll see if I can get us a discounted fare.....

Choices right now are the good ol Wagon Wheel Motel where we've stayed the last two times.....rooms in the WW are pretty tiny, but if all we're doing there is sleeping.....the beds were very comfy and we slept well there, just FYI.

There's a great restaurant right next door, and another great one just a block or so down the road.

Go here for room descriptions and prices http://www.wagonwheel66cuba.com/

or the Cuba Super 8.

Info on the Super 8.... http://www.hotels-rates.com/aspx-975/ho ... elID=52929

Rates are pretty close, the main difference is the rooms in the Super 8 will be larger and more modern, plus they provide breakfast as part of the rate.....and they have a pool, tho it's an outdoor one. This hotel is right on 44 hiway and 19, so only a few blocks away from the WW

Any thoughts?

I will go with the one sans bed bugs.

We haven't stayed at the Super 8 yet, but the Wagon Wheel was clean and bug free.

So, three "mehs' then?

MiniManic do you want to ask Jim if he has an opinion?

Also, is anyone planning to share a room with another attendee? If so the Super 8 has rooms with two beds, I don't think the Wagon Wheel does.

How many rooms will we need total?

Excellent, bring them along for sure....see if you can get them to post up a pic of their car too.

Galen's P'up is a maybe at this point. I haven't heard how he's doing on swapping the motor.

Plans are made, all that needs to happen now is to wait for March 20, and keep recruiting more Classics to go along.

Ruder tells me John (other local classic MINI guy in Steelville/Rolla) says he will have his car ready in time, so things are firming up.

Don's P'up is pretty much ready to go with new front wheel bearings and the exhaust fixed.

Still haven't chosen the Motel yet....not getting any real input on preference from anyone.

Soon as we get a warm weekend we'll get your fog/driving lights wired up properly and swap the exhaust so you won't get gassed out either.

Gonna be fun on a bun!

I asked Ruder if he thought he could find a road or spot where we could hold some impromptu drag races, just for fun - he's looking into it.
