British Car Celebration & Concours D'Elegance, Saturday May 18th, 2019

Post by ragtopday Johnna »

Update at the bottom of this post...

The KC Mini Club has been invited again to attend the British Car Celebration on the Square at Crown Center on Saturday, May 18th, 2019. The registration form is included below.

If you would like to arrive with the club, let's meet at The Roasterie Cafe 1204 W 27th street, at 9am at the Roasterie Cafe, 1204 W. 27th Street, KCMO. MiniDave will lead the group into the show from there.

Also, if you would like to lend a hand volunteering during this year's show, would you please make a note on your registration form? Mark says that may come in handy. There is even more room for displaying cars this year so this could be the biggest British Car show yet at Crown Center. Thank you!

From Mark Short:
Welcome KC Mini Club
Please join us once again on Saturday, May 18, 2019 for a celebration of England's finest automobiles on the Fountain Square at the Westin Crown Center Hotel Complex. The Heart of America Jaguar Club will hold its annual Concours D'Elegance during the event. The Austin Healey Club of Kansas City has also been invited to participate once again this year in this annual gathering of outstanding British Motorcars. We are looking forward this year to an even larger turnout.

Because of the tremendous attendance last year, we are going to open another display area in the ice skating rink. Every year the rink is disassembled and stored for the Summer months, but this year a solid flat surface will be provided for additional cars, possibly for the Jaguar Concours judging. It seems we have in recent years enjoyed "a rain curse" over our event, so perhaps we can offer some protection for the judging event.

All entrants and their guests are invited to a Hospitality Party on Friday evening, from 6-9pm at O'Neill's Restaurant and Bar at 9417 Mission Road, Leawood, KS 66205. We will offer a Buffet dinner and a cash bar in a private meeting room. The fee will be $30 per person attending. (There is no fee for the car show.)

We are looking forward to seeing you again this year on the beautiful Crown Center Square.

UPDATE received 5/16:
Unfortunately you are absolutely correct about the Saturday weather. We have contacted Crown Center about a “Rainout Day”, but this year that’s not possible. There are many moving parts to this show, including insurance, bookings on the Square at Crown Center, use of sound systems, out of town Concours entrants who would have to stay another night, etc.

If indeed the weather is non-stop rain from 10:00 am until noon, we will dismiss everyone (except the Jaguars) at noon. Of course you can leave anytime you wish, that’s never an issue. We have a couple of race cars coming, plus Shelby Cobras, and Bugeye Sprites that are open roadsters without tops. They’ll probably head out early, or at least to the Crown Center garages until it stops.

Weather seems to be our Jinx! We look forward to seeing you there, but totally understand if you decide to sit this one out in the home garage.
Our best regards always,

Mark Short

An update from Mark Short:
Greetings Mini Enthusiasts

Has Spring sprang? Somehow Spring sprung overnight. 80 degrees the second week in April, sounds like spring to me! We hope you have had time to be cruising in your Mini enjoying this wonderfully warm weather.

As we move towards British Car Celebration on May 18th, I have some good news to share. The Mid-American Cobra Club has asked to join us this year on the Crown Center Fountain Square. Of course our first concern was, "Where are we going to put them?" Last year we had a total of 79 requests to participate in the event, and unfortunately we had to turn away nine entrants for lack of room. We only had room for 70 cars, comfortably and safely spaced. We met with Crown Center last week to explore the possibilities of expanding the show. Because the show has been such a success they have offered to alter the Ice Skating Pavilion surface such that we could position 20 additional cars in the area. That will help immensely.

The clock is ticking on the registration acceptance. As of Monday evening we have 44 cars registered for the event, 6 of them are Mini Coopers. I encourage everyone to complete their registrations and mail or email them sooner than later. Every year Hallmark, Inc. and Crown Center comment on the positive feedback from guests on the Square on how much they enjoy viewing the cars. The Minis add so much color and character to the event, we look forward to seeing you every year. Crown Center promotes this as their "Family Event" kicking off the summer on the Square.

If you need any forms or info, please advise and we will send them to you promptly. We look forward to seeing you on the Square!
Cheers,
Mark

Bringing a brand new 2019 MINI to the show. I will be there in my Brand Ambassador capacity showing the car off. We haven’t decided which one to bring yet but it will be a good one. Probably, British Racing Green.

There's info in the first post, but it may be lost among all of the details. :)

MiniDave is going to lead the club into the show. Meet at the Roasterie at 9am, 1204 W. 27th Street, KCMO.

I'll roll in to the Roasterie a little before 9:00......

We'll go down Southwest Blvd to 25th, then 25th to Broadway, left onto Broadway then a quick right onto Pershing and over to Grand/Crown Center where the show will be.

My car isn't made of sugar, and neither am I, so I will still go. It's very unfortunate that this has happened 2 years in a row and I feel for the organizers as well as those who have all made such an effort to put this together. It's especially maddening to me because Sunday is forecast to be cool, sunny and clear!

On with the show! :D
