Kansas City might get a Road Race Course

Post by dimini »

Just published in the 8/29/08 Kansas City Business Journal is a story about Kansas City Speedway's promise to add a road course to their complex if Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is awarded a casino-management contract by the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission.

Wouldn't it be nice if the Kansas Raceway grows beyond NASCAR and offers a road course? I'm having daydreams of participating in two Touring laps events every month.[/b]

It's old news by now, but the whole Casino deal, HardRock Hotel and road race course fell through. Probably just as well. I just saw in the WSJ a story about a Multi-Million dollar Rock & Roll theme park closing in S. Carolina after being open for only two years.

Tough times. Let's hope HPT, in light of saying farewell to the SCCA RunOffs and Solo One Nationals, will find new revenue streams.

Yeah, I haven't seen anything on their website about Touring laps for 2009, and I haven't seen any new construction on the "country club" track that was supposed to be built up near the airport either - in fact, I don't think they've updated their website in over a year!

They're a bit of a drive, but if we can arrange it in conjunction with an event it might be doable to go to the new track an hour east of Denver, and MAM near Omaha too........

the NEW HPR High Plains Raceway is now open, just east of Denver. Below is information about an open track day that you can join, if you wish. Sponsored and hosted by LOCO, Lotus Owners of Colorado:

Subject: Track Day at High Plains Raceway

Add this to your summer driving planning: The Lotus Club of Colorado (LOCO) is inviting members of MOTR and MINI5280, as well as other car
enthusiasts, to participate in their inaugural track day at the new High Plains Raceway on Sunday June 28,2009. Their goal is to get 50-60 cars (no more than 60), to minimize per car cost of track rental. Prior experience is not required; there will be track familiarization and instruction by driving instructors beforehand.Run groups will be made up of drivers/cars with similar experience and capability. The only requirements other than drivers license will be long sleeve shirts and safety helmet (loaners available). Any car is eligible but convertibles require roll bars. The track will be open all day so there will be plenty of track time for everyone. For further info on the track, go to www.highplainsraceway.com.

Cost will be $100-125, depending on number of cars, and if a minimum is not reached, they will refund deposits. LOCO requires a deposit of $100 along with a Request for Entry form to be submitted by about FEB 15. This seems early but they have to make a firm reservation with advance deposit to hold the June 28 date. I will be at our Feb 3 meeting with forms if anyone has questions. If you are not at the meeting you can mail a check with info on you and your car direct to John Arnold, who is running the track Day event for LOCO. If you have any questions, call me.
