Bytetronik Full Access R53 Tuning Software

Post by Punk_Mini »

As we work to complete the final testing of the MINIFlash FullAccess (FA53) Tuning Kit, we would like to provide some specifications on the tuning software and its features.

MINIFlash Tuning Kit consist of one piece of Hardware and one piece of Software:

Hardware: The hardware is the MINIport OBD-II device along with a USB cable (see picture below). The MINIport also doubles as a data-logger device and can also log AFR (provided

Software: The FullAccess (FA53) software is a Bytetronik proprietary software designed specifically for the MINI R53 platform. It’s about 10MB in size and can easily be installed on any Windows Platform (Windows 2000 or newer with a minimum of 512MB of RAM). The FA53 has an easy to use GUI for user to easily navigate through the various levels of tasks and commands, and when connected to the MINIport, it allows users to flash and configure their ECUs.

MINIFlash FA53 is a complete tuning kit that allows end-user to perform the following tasks:
1. Have complete access to the mapping inside the ECU with the ability to adjust over 30+ parameters that pertain to Air/Fuel, power delivery and drivability.

2. Have the option to make unlimited maps for various fuel types and perform map-switching via the use of your laptop.

3. Have the ability to Data-log 30+ parameters via the OBD Port for trouble-shooting and performance monitoring.

4. Have the ability to Read Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and Clear them.

5. Have the ability to Clear ECU Adaptations.

Feature 1: ECU Adjustments. This allows the user to adjust the mappings inside the ECU and tune the engine to maximize the fuel that’s being used. Once you are satisfied with tune, you can save the map and reload it back into the ECU at any given time.

Feature 2: Map Switching. Once the maps are made (typically for 91 Octane, 93 Octane, 100 Octane, Methanol or E85 fuel), then you can simply switch it back by loading the particular map that best suits the situation. For instance, if you are currently running E85 but there are no E85 stations to be found nearby, then it would be wise to get your laptop out, load the “pump gas” map once you fill it up at the next gas station. In addition, you might want to clear the Adaptation while you’re at it.

Feature 3: Data Logging. If you want to see how the car is running while you’re driving. Simply disconnect the USB cable from the MINIport device (while leaving it connected to the car’s OBD-II port), and the data-logging feature is now active. Blinking red/green/blue lights indicate that the MINIport is actively logging 30+ parameter at 8 samples-per-second, and all this information is stored on the onboard micro-SD card. To view the logs, simply connect the USB cable to the MINIport device and you will see the data on your laptop (it will show up as a “Removable Storage Drive”).

Feature 4: Read DTCs and clear them. Is your MINI throwing a Check-Engine Light? Well, instead of reaching for the OBD Scanner, why not just turn on your laptop and see what’s causing the code. And once you find out what the code is about, you can always clear it thru the FA53 software.

Feature 5: Clearing Adaptations. Is your car running sluggish lately? Well, check out the data-log and see if there’s anything that looks unusual. What about the “Long Term Fuel Trims”? Is the ECU learning some of your bad habits and over-compensating? If so, simply go to the FA53 GUI and clear the adaptation values. With the MINIflash, you don’t need a BMW Factory tool (GT1 or Autologic) to perform this task… simply select a command in FA53 and turn off the ignition for 5 minutes for permanent changes, then you should be good to go…

In the coming days, we will post up more tech articles and installation steps regarding the MINIflash Tuning Kit. This way, customers are well-equipped to hit the ground running once the kit is delivered to your door steps.
Just spreading the word of the very close to for the official release of THE software of software for the R53. Place to watch is http://mynesperformance.forumotion.com/ ... 8.htm#3275

Once the product is out, there would be some tutorials with video of examples on how to adjust your fuel map by looking at your logs reading RPM, Load, and current AFR at those points logging from the LC-1 serial output to the MiniPort serial input.

Some examples how simple ByteTronik user software is user freindly to the non-tuners:

Image

Here is example when the user is unsure how the fuel map works. Click on help and a pop up on the side of the map will show you a description of the map and how to adjust.

Here is another example to see the same fuel map an it's 3D graph fuel:

Finally, another example under the "file" menu of shortcuts to edit the numbers in your current fuel map:

So as the community gets bigger, other users can help each other out as well. And we will continue to set up examples as well. On picture number 2, try to read the example on the side. It explains about the fuel map and how it works!

Estimated cost?

Do you think you can do a comparable tune with this to what Jan or Mynes or some of the other guys who have been doing it for years do?

Anything on the horizon for the R56?

Quote from Mike@Mynes
We think the pricing is quite reasonable... if you get a "remote tuning device" ($350 to $400) from a competitor with one of his tunes (another 300 to $350), then you're looking at about $700 total for a canned remote tune with no data-logging, no code clearing and no control over the mapping... For a few more bucks, you can get the entire MINIFlash Tuning Kit... :)
This software itself is what Myne's uses which is basically reverse engineering of the R53 ECU so it has access to levels of maps that Dimsport (RMW) does not.

Quote from Jay@Mynes and developer of Bytetronik
I think the Dimsport is awesome software, just not for the MINI R53 and R56. Very limited. Everyone have their rev limiters raised to rev higher with a tune, but all throttle, timing, fuel, torque request, torque limiters maps are cap at either 6500 RPM, 6800 RPM and the max 7000 RPM but you are revving to 7200 -7800 RPM. Putting a bunch a fuel at the last cell in the fuel map doesn't cut it. Every map that we have found either 2D or 3D tables and maps have their coresponding X and Y axis that are completely adjustable. These X and Y axis are only found by disassembly and not found by the naked eye.

If Dimsport took the effort as we did, it would be even better offering for the MINI, but they put their effort into the higher end cars that makes a lot of money. And from a big company like themselves, I don't blame them.

Jay is hard at work on the 2nd gen ECU platform also. It has more obstacles to overcome than the 1st gen.

It's out
Product Announcements wrote:Well, as the release date is coming around the corner, it's only fair that we announce the pricing for the Bytetronik MINIFlash FullAccess Tuning Software.

Image

*When you purchase the MINIFlash Tuning Kit, you get to to bundle in any of the remaining 6 items at the "Packaged Price."

**For customers who have been Custom Tuned previously by Mynes Tuning or 1320MINI in the UK, you get a $200 discount toward the MINIFlash Tuning Kit.
NOTE: Offer only valid for 45-days after the official release date of the MINIFlash Tuning Kit!!!

For More Information on the various products, please visit the below links:
1. MINIFlash Tuning Kit (features and capabilities):

3. OBD2 Extension Cable: This little gizmo has a 90-degree connector to your OBD port and is invaluable. We use it more time than you care to count. You can safely relocate your OBD Port to a much friendlier location inside your MINI. This is critical especially during flash and reflash operations or data-logging operations. If you lose connection during the reflashing process (say you're getting in or out of the MINI and kicked it by accident), then you will be in a world of hurt. For $10 bucks, it's well worth it. Trust us, we won't steer you wrong.

4. DataViewer Software: Want to view your MINIFlash Datalogs in a more friendlier format? Well, then you can get the DataViewer to see your .csv datalogs in a Graphical format with Playback functions. Once you get the software, you must register to enable the "Playback Function"... If purchased separately, then you must pay the $100 price for the DataViewer.

5. Innovate MTX-L Wideband kit: The MINIFlash supports AFR Logging and it's compatible with the Innovate family of wideband kits. The Digital MTX-L is their newest gauge line up and provides 'daisy chain support' for additional serial gauges (i.e. Boost Pressure, Air Temp or Engine Temp). These other new gauges will be available during the 1st quarter of 2011.
