Why MINI has not installed heat shields under the hood scoops/over the turbo is beyond me.Problems with wrinkled hood scoops and bonnets you could fry an egg on have been around since the R-56 was introduced. MINI needs to address the problem!!!

Was there a recall related to this or is the replacement installed only when the owner reports the problem to the dealer?

No recall, since it's not really a safety issue, rather an appearance issue. I'm going to replace mine before it goes out of warranty, it's not warped badly, but they said they'd replace it for me, so I'll take em up on it.

I think they're going to find out it's not the scoop that's the issue, it's the oil line to the turbo.

You can buy a heat shield for your mini installed from the dealer for $30. It's a cheap fix.

I put a heat shied on mine once my stripes started baking and it has still continued to get worse. Not how much it helped or if it is just because the vinyl was already stressed.
