Ten years ago this month Judy's BRG R50 was being manufactured (02/02 is the date on the sticker).

Counting down to our April 13, 2002 anniversary of picking the car up at Baron -- and being 'rock stars' for over a year in Central Iowa as people pointed and smiled at our little car.

Ten years ago last month (January 2002) I drove to the Detroit Auto Show to see the MINIs in person to see if it would fit the bill as a replacement for Judy's 1987 Honda CRX Si. When I saw the MINIs, I fell in love, and knew that Judy would, too.

Even though I lived in Des Moines, I drove to Kansas City directly after the auto show and put a deposit down to get on the waiting list. (It helped that I had meetings for work in Kansas City that week).

I wished I had written down the exact number we were in line, but it was around 80 somewhere. We dealt with Gabe initially, then Lisa Foell when cars actually started showing up.

Can't believe it was 10 years ago. I remember the anticipation as if it were last week.
