(Erase)

Post by Zack »

Recently replaced my steering bushings. While we were doing the work, a buddy of mine noticed a leak in one of the hoses for the power steering. I'm not sure which hose, nor am I sure how much this will cost to fix. Any advice would be helpful as money is tight.

Had mine replaced by KC Autosport for about $225. Could DIY if you can work in very tight spaces and if you don't mind getting dirty and messy w/fluid. Not my idea of fun, however. :(

Might have to stop gap the issue right now since I can't afford to completely repair it. I know the fluid is Pentosin CHF 11S but where can I get it the cheapest? So far online its for $19.25 but O'Reilly has it for $21.99

I think I paid $16 at Baron, with club discount.

I always wonder why people think the dealership is the LAST place to go to buy parts for their car.....

Check the clamp on the large hose that goes to the reservoir, sometimes all you need to do is put a new clamp on that hose to stop the leak. You can't tighten the original clamp, it's a one use only and sometimes the hose shrinks from age and the heat off the exhaust, a screw type clamp can be tightend further and may cinch the leak up.

From what Tom told me when he was under the car, I believe he thought it was a hole in the actual tubing.

How do you intend to stop-gap it then? Cause pouring that expensive juice on the ground can get spendy in a hurry....

You can change both hoses without removing the rack, but like Hagar says it's not easy, and you will get oily/dirty. The hardest part is reaching the clamps and cutting them off.

Which steering bushings did you replace?

We had bought pre pressed steering bushings with steering knuckles. I believe they would be considered lower. We also replaced the front sway bar bushings as well. Tom clamped the hose in a way that it would prevent it from leaking for now and advised me to get fluid in there soon

I'm still not sure what you're talking about, maybe lower control arm bushings? They fit at the back of the subrame, and the sway bar mounts to them too?

I think that's the cuz we has to drop the subframe to install them.

The hose in question is apparently referred to as a power steering "intake manifold". Anyway, Tom got it to stop for now. Should be fine but may have to replace it down the road.

Love bad news. I bring it in for alignment and power steering leak

Tires are completely worn
Passenger side ball joint
Power steering fan shot
Both power steering hoses shot
Seized up tie rod ends.
Drivers side headlight leveler stuck.

I hope I didn't accidentally hit the warning button the first time. Apologies if I did

Anyway, they are doing all the repairs as I type this from the waiting area at Baron.

They can't do the full alignment until the other wheels are on the car cuz the aftermarket ones have less used up tires apparently lol. It's all done for now. Still have to bring it back.
