Parkville's 4th of July Parade-any interest??

Post by Marlow Main »

The Main Street Parkville Association has invited us to join the annual 4th of July Parade again, so I am checking to see if there is any
interest in the group to shine up your MINIs/Minis and drive real slow while waving to thousands of adoring fans.

Saturday, July 4, 2009
4th of July Parade: 10:00 am
Carnival: 11:00 am – 11:00 pm
Fireworks over the Missouri River: 9:45 pm

Just let me know....

Thanks

We will meet up on NW 63rd street in Parkville, Mo around 9:00 - 9:15 am. That should give everyone time to quick detail and/or decorate their MINIs if they would like to, before the parade starts at 10 am. Please enter 63rd street from Bell Road, as the city will have the 9 highway side exit blocked off. 63rd street and the surrounding side streets will be used to line up all of the parade participants.
Remember to practice your parade wave

I just got the word from work that I will be off that day. If it is not to late you can count us in for 1 classic and 2 people. I had a question can we toss candy to the kids from our cars.

Thanks for joining in the parade, unfortunately the Parkville PD will not allow parade participants to toss candy for fear of injury to members of the adoring crowd :( . They are very strict about this and will provide only one warning per group, then toss you from the parade for a second offense. If you would like to hand out candy, someone will need to walk beside your car and pass it out to the crowd. Kids should never cross the parade route. As a life long resident, I have attended almost every parade in Parkville while growing up ( this is still a work in progress) and I have never, nor has any one else I knew, ever received a candy related injury or been mowed down by a swiftly moving parade entry moving at 1 mile an hour :D ( But the rules are the rules....)

Even without the candy tossing, this is a fun family event. The turnout for the parade is amazing ! People start lining up early, from 63rd and 9 Highway all the way down the railroad tracks at the end of Main Street Parkville and they will wave and cheer as you pass.

For non-Parkville, first timers we ( I ) could use directions to Bell road and 63rd Street. Only been to Parkville by 9 HWY. JO CO you know!

Maybe you could have maps at MITM?

It is pretty easy, there are 2 routes:

1) 1-69 North ( Broadway Bridge / Extension) to 9 Highway exit,
9 Highway West in to Parkville (9 Highway curves north in downtown Parkville past Park University by the Fire Station and the Post Office)
continue heading north on 9 Highway until to hit the Sonic ( that is 63rd street)

2) 19 to I-29 North to Tom Watson Parkway (or 45 Highway)
head west on Tom Watson, past the lake to the Intersection of 9 Hwy & Tom Watson /45 Hwy (There will be a Phillips 66 on the NW side of the intersection)
proceed through the intersection and turn in by the Price Chopper from Tom Watson
you will go through a round about between the Walgreens and the Price Chopper and it intersect 63rd street
