MINI Cooper Iowa Spring Fling (May 1, 2010)

Post by IowaM1N1 »

Gang-

Just a quick note to let you know about an Iowa MINI event coming up in a few weeks...

Judy and I will be joining them. It is our first time to the Okoboji area, and looks to be a fun time.

Here are the details. Let me know if you have any questions -- or if you are able to join us!

-Greg
Date: Saturday, May 1, 2010
Time: 1:30pm - 8:00pm
Location: Arnolds Park, IA

Spring tour of Okoboji

Our first ever MINI Cooper Iowa tour of the Iowa Great Lakes.

Coordinated by Jon Peters.

Latest post from Jon:

I've got the route ready to go. We start at the parking lot across the street
from the Maritime Museum in Historic Arnolds Park. I'm thinking 1:30 on May 1st.
That will give everyone a chance for lunch or a trip through the museum if they
wish. If you need an address for your GPS, I'll get it for you. I have a map
laid out, but I have not figured out how to attach it to the message board. I'll
email it to anyone who wants it.

The route is approximately 80 miles with stops at Gull Point State Park on West
Lake Okoboji, Marble Beach on Big Spirit Lake, Little Swan Lake Winery, where we
can get a snack or some nices wines. We continue down the east side of East
Okoboji and finish at the Four Seasons Resort and the Dry Dock Lounge which has
an out side deck for dining if the weather is good and inside dining if it
isn't.

The Four Seasons (712-332-2103 [corrected number - Greg]) has offered a $60/night room rate for a room
with two full beds. If they run out of room I check some other places. This
early in the season, rates will be reasonable. Please let them know that you are
with the Mini Cooper Group or they may not quote you that price.

If you decide to come up Friday most of the golf courses and a lot of the gift
shops will be open. I haven't been able to get a cruise schedule for the Queen
II, but I'm certain we can work something in. For the fishermen, this is Walleye
Weekend our season opener and Tournament. Also we have the Fisherman's Factory
Outlet (ffo-tackle.com) in Spirt Lake. The website lists probably 15% of what is
in the store. The bargains can be spectacular.

Thank-you for your time and attention and I hope to hear from you soon.

Jon C. Peters

Hope this is helpful -- I can post more info if needed!

By "Iowa" you basically mean "Southern Minnesota" right? Okoboji is wayyy up there. I actually went to HS in Algona. :P

A good friend of mine just got back from Iraqistan today, will have to see if she wants to co-pilot. Her husband is doing pre-mobilization training around that time so she probably needs to get out of the house.

I've never been up to the Lake Okoboji area. Sounds like a lot of fun!

My wife and I will be leaving from Des Moines on that Friday afternoon. We'd love to have others travel with us.

Keep us posted on the MINICooperIowa Yahoo group if your plans align and you are able to join us.

A reminder in case anyone is interested in an impromptu road trip this weekend!

A MINI event two consecutive weekends! Think we'll be taking Judy's MINI this time.

We waiting for the rain in Central Iowa to blow thru. After that, the trip was great.

Weather in Okoboji was nice, but quite windy on Saturday.

We had a great personalized tour of the area -- very cool place!
