PULLED THE TRIGGER! UPDATE!

Post by cdecker78 »

As of now I will be keeping my 16" wheels unless I find some 17" wheels SOON. Thats me Mr. Indecisive!

I can't remember which Dave it is that has a set of ASA wheels for sell, but whoever it is get ahold of me. I can come look at them tomorrow if that works.

Right now I have 195/55/16 and want to know can I fit 215/50/16 on my 2009 clubman or will it be better to go with 205/50/16? I am looking at the Goodyear Eagle GT, the Conti DWS, Bridgestone Potenza G 019, or the Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S.

If I get some 17's I will be getting 215/45/17

Any input would be appreciated

I do not recommend the G019 Grids. They start out great, but cup very easily. After 10k they start sounding like 4x4 off-road tires - very loud.

This is from 2 sets on 2 very different cars (one a MINI).

This is a common complaint of these tires - see TireRack comments section.

If just for street use, the Conti DWS is getting very good reviews, and I'm very happy with my Kumho ASX, but the Conti's are supposed to last longer.

I agree with the Conti DWS in a 205/50ZR16 unless you go with a 17" --- 215/45ZR17

WWYD?
So after much research.(two full days worth) Edited Contis are a player again. Seems like the mushy drive is during burn in, and mostly on 16" wheels. So I may stilll get the Conti DWS in 215/45/ZR17!

I am thinking I will have a these options.

Option #1
A new set of wheels.
Konig Illusion 17x7 at Discounttiredirect.com for $436 shipped. Thats $109 a wheel....
Image
and a set of 215/45ZR17 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus! Found out through a little birdie that Sams Club will have the $70 off a set of 4 starting the 27th.
But the price is still a shocker $159.88! But the reviews are GREAT!
Image
or a set of 215/45ZR17 Goodyear Eagle GT Price is $124.42 but has $50 off a set of four right now.
Image
*JUST ADDED AGAIN*
a set of 215/45ZR17 Continental ExtremeContact DSW from either Tire Rack who is about $20 more for a set or Discounttiredirect.com with the wheels...

Option #2

Keep the 16" wheels and put...
205/50/16 Goodyear Eagle GT
Image
or
205/50/16 Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S

Closely check these out. Very closely. I put a set of 15s on my 15" holies and I'm *extremely* disappointed. Very soft and squishy to the point of being frightening on the interstate.

Sears won't do crap about it, so I have a brand new set of tires that I'll be replacing and selling on Craigslist.

This in spite of all the great Tirerack reviews. Seems in larger sizes and lower profiles, it can be a good tire. In 195/60-15, it is simply unacceptable.

I realize you are going 16s or 17s, which is a different story. Just pay close attention and go in with eyes wide open.

I'm interested in your experience with the DSWs when you try them out for a while.
