Tour de Donut, Saturday November 20th
Join me for a fun drive to five of Kansas City's best donut shops, starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday, November 20th. (The good donuts go quick, we're starting early!)
We'll meet at John's Space Age Donuts, 8124 Floyd St. in Overland Park, KS, leaving there promptly at 7:30. Join us for the whole tour or part...we'll spend less than 30 minutes at each stop. Without ruining the fun and revealing all of the stops, I can say that we will be stopping at only locally owned shops, no Krispy Kreme or Dunkin, and will be visiting four cities on both sides of the state line. The Tour de Donut will conclude in Independence around 10 a.m.
How many donuts do you think you can eat? I've got a couple of prizes, one for the person who eats the most donuts on the tour, another for the person who drinks the most cups of dreadful donut shop coffee.
(This is a BYO Lipitor event.)
RSVP with number of people and cars please.

Sounds like fun, and I'm always up for a good sugar pill run!
No coffee for me, however a good dose of hot choco would do the trick, especialy if it's cold/snowing/sleeting/raining/ all of the above!
1 MINI, 1 somewhat bloated Human (by the end of the drive)

Oooo, MINIs and donuts... never been a finer combo. I'm in and I've even talked the Mister into accompanying me. Will we be stopping at Donut King?

Re: Tour de Donut, Saturday November 20th
Well....we could make a SIXTH stop at Donut King (love their seasonal flavors!). They have the most generous hours of any locally-owned donut shop in the area, so it wouldn't be a problem to add them on to the end of the itinerary. In the five on the list, there is not a Northland stop but I would never refuse an offer to visit a donut shop located between a used car lot and a strip club.sugaroni wrote:Oooo, MINIs and donuts... never been a finer combo. Re: Tour de Donut, Saturday November 20th
It's been there for almost 13 months. I stopped by the Mazda dealer last week (along with Esmter, another former MINI owner) to take a pic. When I showed the pic to Laurie this week, I think she teared up...or maybe it was just allergies.monty wrote:Two of us will be there and one MINI.Don't know which two, but someone will be there. Dang you for bringing this up again! Do you know that I thought about my MINI almost all day on Wednesday! I sure do miss it. I might have to seriously think about the Countryman once they have been out for a while.ragtopday wrote:It's been there for almost 13 months. Re: Tour de Donut, Saturday November 20th
While I'm not going to give away my selections for the Tour de Donut, I will say that I agree with your recommendation. There is quite a history with this location of Fluffy Fresh and the original Fluffy Fresh location in Mission. There's a story between the two bakers and it's not pretty. I like this location of Fluffy Fresh because of the counter, it's small but always provides interesting people watching.Minidave wrote:Another place for consideration for this run, or a future one.

I went to visit the other (the original) Fluffy Fresh one day and found that someone had attempted to create a drive-thru, not just once but twice, rolling over the curb and into the plate glass window! Insulation was sticking out between what was the exterior wall and the window, yet the charming little lady inside was flagging us in, not wanting to miss any customers just because someone drove their car into the donut shop. I dropped by there recently (the same day the nearby Dunkin opened) to support a local donut shop instead of a corporate chain, only to find they were already sold out. Love that folks still appreciate a good donut and will drive past a mediocre one to visit these places!

Re: Tour de Donut, Saturday November 20th
If you are as serious about your donuts as you are about your MINI, you might want a Tour de Donut t-shirt or coffee mug.
Here's the link: http://www.cafepress.com/52Donuts
(While the shirts are available on dark colors, the design does not look good on dark colors. Just a heads up...)
A BIG thanks to MiniX2 for the design work. I ordered some goodies already!
