June 9th has been taken.

September 29th has been booked by the Heart of America Z Car Club. The past few years we have done it in late July and suffered brain damage from the heat.

Yes, I'm for an October date, as long as it doesn't snow!

*Oct 6, 1995 - 13" of snow in 6 hours*

But don't forget, if it's a Chiefs weekend, participation will be limited - especially if they manage to have a decent season.

Just curious, I wonder what the cutoff year is for the Vintage T-bird club?

As long as you like it hot......

I prefer the cooler days of spring or fall, myself.....

Yes, June 23rd was on the schedule we received.

June 23rd is the Art of the Car Concours which may or may not be a consideration.

I tend to agree -- the heat from July thru mid-August can be unbearable. I'm reminded of our joint Miata/MINI event a couple summers back that was in June but even then was very hot.

My preference would be early or late in the year.

Some notes on the remaining weekends:
+ June 23 is the Sunday of Art of the Car. We've done that in the past and it has worked out. But if you recall, this is often a hot weekend.
+ Sept 1 is Labor Day weekend, which will affect participation.
+ NFL season starts the weekend after Labor Day - so any Sunday after Sept 1 will have potential NFL conflicts. That doesn't make it impossible, just hard to predict this early in the year. The NFL game schedule comes out in April.
+ Mid to late October is the MINI Cooper Iowa Fall Tour which Judy and I always do, and others from KCME have joined in the past. It is always on a Saturday, but it means high-tailing it back to KC to participate on Sunday.

An option -- we could grab the Sept 29 date and if it works out or not? But I guess we'd need to ensure we have someone to take charge and run the event before committing.

My parents and I really enjoyed going to to MINI's at the Market last year. I am excited to see that this event is happening again!
I'm going to try to convince my sister to bring her MINI down for the day as well.
I vote for sometime in September/October.....I am not a fan of the heat of the summer months

September 1st is my birthday. :) Wouldn't mind spending it with my MINIac friends. :D (As long as I don't end up in the hospital again after the show....)

LOL true true. Don't have a gallbladder either so that kinda rules out every non essential organ that usually gets removed.

The schedule still shows some late season dates available. Now that we know the NFL schedule, there are some answers.

Unfortunately, it appears that KC has noon home games on Sept 15, Oct 13, and 20. The 20th works for me, since my team has a late game that day.

For those who don't want to miss a game, remember there is a Minsky's Pizza a couple of steps away....lot's of TVs, cold drinks, and good food.

Still up in the air for now. Need consensus on a date, and someone to take the lead coordinating the event.

Well I am a newbie but I would be willing to step up if no one else will , however if there is someone else who is going to take the lead I am happy for that. Just excited about the event and want to see it happen!

Gears-

I saw your post on the other message that you are volunteering to head this up. GREAT!

I've not participated much, since I'm relatively new myself -- so I don't know a lot of the history, but here's what I've pieced together. Others can jump in and correct/enlighten.

Kirk (s-car-go) led it last year and can fill you in on what he did.

In past years, the event goes something like this:
Sign-ups -- Sign-ups ahead of time with a donation required. Donations go to one of two local charities. Marlow Main coordinates receipt of the money.
T-shirts -- Some years we've gotten t-shirts made up ahead of time, but I don't know the details on how that worked. I think Johnna (Ragtopday) can fill in some of the history.
Food -- work with Samer at Baron and he will coordinate boxed lunches -- Baron is very generous in their support for us in this event.
Prizes -- We often have a drawing for prizes. Kirk can fill you in since I think he handled prizes the last 2 times. Samer also donates some MINI swag and parts for a drawing.
Meet-up pre-show -- we have previously met up at a park on the river near the Market about an hour before the show, then caravan in together. Makes for a nice coordinated appearance.

Look at some of the message history about the Market show here on the board to learn about how it has been run and how it gets communicated.

Again, I'm not the authority on how it has been done in the past -- I know just enough to be dangerous. S-car-go and Ragtopday I know can get you info on the history and advice on how to proceed. There is a lot of wisdom there and lessons learned, you'd be wise to listen to their counsel.

Good luck!

Oct 20 works for me!

Last year we held the Mini's at the Market meet on 30 September. We lost out on some NFL fans but overall had a pretty good turnout. In the past Baron had supplied the lunches and event t-shirts. Last year they where not able to cover the shirts do to limitations set by MINI on how much they could spend on sponsorship. I have attended the past 3 years. The first year I was just a participant, the second one I coordinated prices and last year I coordinated the even. This is a great event and in my opinion, the prizes and T-shirts are nice but it is the event itself that is so awesome. It is a great opertunity to showcase our amazing cars and socialize with eachother. I will gladly provide any information or assistance needed to whoever coordinates this event. Unfortunately my decision to continue my education prevents me from being able to take the lead on this though. Lets pick a date and make it happen :D

I coordinated this the first several years and can share what I know but most has already been covered.

Samer at Baron helps to coordinate box lunches that are delivered to the Market. Last year there were no shirts, but it may be worth asking again. Samer has terrific graphic design skills and has created some of the shirt designs in the past. MiniX2 helped to get the designs print-ready. If you come to a spot where you need a screen printing recommendation, I'm happy to pass along the company who created the high-quality shirts we had for several years.

Registration has included a minimal fee that is donated to a local charity. Those charities were chosen to honor members who have passed. It's also helpful to have advanced registration so you have a solid number for lunches and shirts, if applicable.

Prizes can be rounded up from lots of the after-market MINI companies. We've had lots of support in the past, some even sent fun stuff for registration bags.

Meeting at Berkley Riverfront Park works really well. Meeting at the Downtown Airport does not. The market prefers everyone to arrive at a similar time, so meeting up somewhere first works well.

I think that's all I know. Happy to answer questions, but I'm with s-car-go on the time limitations. I'd love to attend if someone else coordinates. Thanks for stepping up, Gears!

I have emailed Deb Connors requesting October 20th for this event. If anyone would like to participate but that date does not work for you please let me know so we can look at other options while we still have time. S-car-go and ragtopday thank you so much for you help and support. I am excited to try and help make things happen for the Club so soon after joining!
