Why is a car worth 35,000 pounds considered cheap in UK?

I have wondered this.
I'm watching an episode of Top Gear and Jeremy is driving a Shelby GT500. He said it is worth 35,000 pounds which is "very cheap". How is 35,000 pounds, the equivalent of about $55,300 considered cheap??
To me that seems super expensive
25,000 pounds for what is essentially a Scion FR-S is almost $40,000 which is expensive to me when you can buy an FR-S in the U.S. for $25,000 well equipped.
