I was running a VIN check on my car to find out exactly when it was built. It said, 11.09.2006. Is that November 9th or September 11th?

Good question, since the Europeans do tend to list the day before the month....where did you access the records? I know my car was built on Jan 21st 2009, if I could look mine up I could tell you.

OK, the first is the day, the second is the month.

Interesting that when you do this, you get an accurate picture of what the car looked like when it was born, including all your options.

In case you were curious about the website...here is the link. http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html

The website is in German, and this link is an English conversion. So you'll see some German phrases scattered around.

And yes, the dates are DD.MM.YYYY -- Day then month then year. Judy's MIN shows 26.02.2002, built a month before MINIs were even sold in the US.

There are also more website which can decode your MINI VIN number.
I would like to recommend www.myminivin.com
good quality mini VIN lookup, it decodes manufacture date, car options and other information like market, color..
