Mine worked but it sounded like it had a rock blowing around in it in occasion. Probably a plastic piece broke off and was stuck in it.

Wonder how difficult it would be to get in there and get the plastic bit out

I did my fair share of plowing with the MINI front end yesterday and today!

Now that you mention it my HVAC motor rattles as well and over the summer I had moments where the hvac system did not turn on at all. Heating or cooling. It took five or ten minutes, or hitting the top of the dash.
Hey Fonzie, have you considered the auxilary radiator fan?

Well Richie I have a brand new radiator fan in the car already...so...no.

? about parking brake for drifting

Post by MiniMax »

I was talking with a buddy of mine and he asked me a ? I didn't know the answer for. Is the mini hand brake linked directly to the back wheels or the transmission? We were talking about how it is more difficult to power slide in a mini (front wheel drive cars in general, he's a corvette guy). He warned me to be careful using the hand brake if it was tied into the tranny. Does anyone know?

The hand brake is attached to the rear brake calipers and acts on the regular brake pads. What makes them hard to drift is the abs/dsc/traction control computer nanny wants to try and straighten the car out!

No problem with the transmichigan.....but if it was tied to the trans it would act on the front wheels anyway, that would make it nearly impossible to drift.

It has worked just fine for me the last few days! Lock the backs and drag them all over the parking lot with the fronts! I got some pretty nice drifts around our parking lot at work. My buddy in his C230 was jealous I could shut off my traction control and his kept him in check.

Also, if you park outside and the rears stick, the hand brake will feel loose and the breaks will pop loose when you start to move. Mine has done this and I am using it very little so that it doesn't get stuck (using the motor when parked instead - not that I didn't when using the hand brake as well).

Well that explains why I could drift my Mini around corners, even with the DSP engaged. The car went around nicely. Love it on the snow packed roads around campus. :-)

I honestly don't understand the desire to lower a mini. They already practically sit on the ground as it is.

Because you drive an R53 and I drive an R56. Completely different animals when it comes to suspension look and set-up. I agree that there is no reason to drop an R53 but your standard R56 has super soft suspension (even with my sport package) and about 6 inches of wheel gap.

Kind of like adding driving lamps when you already have more than functional headlights 8)

Dave, it's all in good fun. The lights were on the car for about six months before being wired up. No arguing was involved and everyone is laughing...gets off soap box and walks away.

Seems like I saw an ad campaign once, something like you-ified. No wait, maybe it was you-nique. No, no, it was you-ification. Something about building and modifying your car to make it yours. You know, like without it mattering if someone doesn't understand your desires to lower/lift/chrome/plastidip your ride. Sure wish I could remember what car company that ad was for...

Wow.

I didn't realize that Zack needed you defend him on the good old intrawebs.

To defend myself, I did install all of my suspension, boost gauge, temp gauge, exhaust and everything else on the R56 with zero help from anyone else. I can't help that the classic mini has completely retarded wiring in it.
