I'm new to Mini's and could use some help

Post by mulcahy78 »

I am looking at a set of wheels that came off of 2004 Mini Cooper S. I am wanting to know if they will fit my 2009 Clubman?
Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

I'm not sure but I think they will. I'm no expert though. I know the newer wheels will fit on the older cars. Ask Minidave.

If I remember correctly, the lug sizes are too small. The first gens had 12mm and the newer ones are 14mm. I know R53 wheels won't fit on my R56 because of this issue.

If you absolutely want gen 1 wheels find ones off a late build 2006 Cooper like mine. Those are the right lug size.

If they are factory OEM wheels they will fit with no problem, depending on the size - IE 15" Cooper wheels might not clear the brake calipers on a Cooper S - you need 16" or 17" wheels.

My r53 wheels would have fitted on your r56 since it was a end of the run build and had 14mm lugs and the r56 Cooper s brakes.

The standard size wheel on the 'S' was 16", so it should fit a 2009 Clubman.

If we knew what wheels you were looking at, we might be able to provide a little more advice.

From: http://www.mini2.com/forum/faq.php?faq=faq_wheels_tyres
Can all OEM wheels be fitted to either generation MINI?
NOTE: The information below applies only to wheels for R50, R52, R53, R55, R56, R57 models. Wheels for R60 models have a different bolt pattern and will therefore not fit.

On July 12, 2006 the size of wheel bolts was changed from M12x1.5 to M14x1.25. There exists a misconception that this change in wheel bolt size precludes fitting early OEM wheels on later model cars. This is simply not true as all OEM wheels have holes large enough for either size wheel bolt.

It's the front disk brake size that determines which OEM wheels will fit as shown below:
(See table at link for an easier-to-read version)

| Generation - Models | Disk Size | Wheels |
+---------------------+-----------+----------+

Sometimes that is true but used wheels are a heck of a bargain over aftermarket, especially if they want the stock look still and the wheels are in good shape.

It's true, even the early OEM wheels have 14mm holes, even tho the early cars had 12mm wheel bolts - the wheels are hub centric, so the bolts just hold the wheels on, they don't center it.

Oddly enough the wheels you're interested in I just purchased a used set with old Dunlop run flats on them yesterday. Probably gonna use them for autocross or as snow tires.

Thanks for all the help! I have another question for you guys... The wheels I just bought don't have the tire pressure sensor can I get tire pressure sensors for them?
If so where can I get them and are they crazy expensive to put in?

I bought my replacements on tire rack. There are plenty of places to buy them, amazon, outmotoring, the dealer. I am not sure of the prices but last time I checked, they were about 60-70 bucks each. If it is for a spare set, then I wouldn't even bother. I don't run them in my snow tire package and there aren't any issues. There is just the light on the speedo that stays lit but no annoying sounds.

Just be sure to get the right ones, they changed in 2010 IIRC, so the 2007-2009+ ones won't work in the later cars.

I also ran my car without them for a while and the light never bothered me either, but it is nice to have the system operating - we get such huge swings in temps that can really affect tire pressure, it's a good reminder to make sure they're up to snuff.

cool thanks! How complicated is it to put a tire pressure sensors on the wheel? Do you have to have a special tool or anything

They go inside the wheel, so you have to break down the tire.....no biggy if you're putting new tires on the car, more trouble than it's worth if not. Good news, the 2007-2009 sensors are the cheapest.

That's about what Tire Rack charged me for mine IIRC, I bought mine with a new set of tires.....just for fun you might call Baron Parts and see what they charge for them, or if they have any from take off wheels they might sell cheap.

I don't know why the dealer is always the last place anyone call for parts for their cars.....

That is actually a very good idea. When I was looking to add some to my winter rims I called my buddy in Cali and the dealer had a set for sale. It was still price ~ 55 per.
