What'd you do to your MINI today?
Ok, I thought we had one of these threads but I looked everywhere and attempted a search (it didn't work) and didn't find anything so I'm stating this. I took off my old bonnet stripes and put on a new white and teal sport stripe. The back will be done next weekend since I ran out of time today and don't have time to finish it this week. Hoping the air bubble in it will go away soon.

I do too, the other look was just a bit too "busy" for me - this looks pretty cool!

That looks fantastic.
Where do you get the stripes? I didn't realize this was something you could do yourself. How long does it take, and how easy is it to get it right?

I've installed (Tom installed) the Alta CAI. It's awesome. That wasn't today but I felt like putting it in there. I ordered some Alta Steering bushings for the Mini. We're gonna install em when we do the pulley this summer.

I made the stripe myself an it took my husband and I about an hour to put the front on. I have the back stripe made I just ran out of time and looks like its going to rain this weekenderonning wrote:That looks fantastic.

Re: What'd you do to your MINI today?
Arty has been at the dealer since Friday getting more warranty work done (the thermostat went out) so I've finally gotten to test drive a Cooper Clubman for the weekend. I LOVE IT!!! Pretty sure I'm going to be ordering one in January.

Tom and I are doing something really cool for my Mini. We're gonna take my United Kingdom metal grille badge and grind off the screw in parts on the back, attach 3M tape to the perimeter and then attach it to my steering wheel to cover the bent Mini Logo.

Re: What'd you do to your MINI today?
If I'm reading this right, you are planning to take a big piece of metal and tape it to your airbag cover. So if you ever get in a situation where your airbag deploys, you are going to have a piece of metal flying at your body at tremendous speed and force. Is that correct?Zackattack28 wrote:Tom and I are doing something really cool for my Mini. Or am I not understanding your plan?

Re: What'd you do to your MINI today?
Well that is the general idea but doesn't plastic hurt just as much when flying at you? The cover flips downward anyway I believe.

Re: What'd you do to your MINI today?
The cover is made to split open from the Mini emblem. So if there's something covering it, more than likely the thing covering the MINI emblem will then become shrapnel when your air bag goes off. There's a reason why it says don't put anything on the airbags in the owners manual.Zackattack28 wrote:Well that is the general idea but doesn't plastic hurt just as much when flying at you? Re: What'd you do to your MINI today?
Isn't the Mini emblem itself already schrapnel? Especially pealed up on one side because it's bent.Counterfit_Mini wrote:The cover is made to split open from the Mini emblem. I drove my MINI today. It was great!
2003 Dark Silver Metallic MINI Cooper S.
Re: What'd you do to your MINI today?
I believe that to be accurate. I think there is a seam across the middle of the airbag that follows the lower contour of the MINI logo, so it splits open like a clamshell -- the upper half folds up and the lower half folds down.Counterfit_Mini wrote:The cover is made to split open from the Mini emblem. So if there's something covering it, more than likely the thing covering the MINI emblem will then become shrapnel when your air bag goes off.
The MINI logo, being securely attached to the upper half, does not become a projectile.
Something rigid fastened to the middle of the airbag would not swing up with the upper half or swing down with the lower half. It will fling off in an unpredictable path (upward or downward), dependent on the strength of the adhesive -- in the general direction of the driver.

Re: What'd you do to your MINI today?
My latest mod, performed Tuesday night...
I bought the OEM hood scoop heat shield from Baron, took it home and installed it. There were no instructions included. Fortunately, Todd Pearson happened to be at Baron and showed me how it fastened, plus the trick on the odd little fasteners that came with it.
Thanks to Davester for the advice about that little piece of tin. Happy that my hood scoop area will no longer be hot enough to fry eggs.
