Art of the Machine - City Market letter 2014

Art of the Machine Participants:

We are currently scheduling the dates for this seasons Art of the Machine car shows and wanted to check with you to see if your group would be interested in participating this summer. The event runs every Sunday, May through October, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. We prefer all club members arrive at 10:00 a.m. as a group and remain in the Market until 2:00 pm. for safety reasons. Clubs will enter and exit through the back gate at 3rd and Walnut and display their vehicles in the third pavilion, located on the north side of the Market. The City Market Farmers’ Market continues to grow so it might be possible that some farmer market vendors will need to use a portion of the 3rd pavilion. We do not foresee this happening until possibly July, if at all, and vendors will only use a few stalls on the west end of the shed.

We had a few problems with a couple of the clubs last season so would like to clarify a few City Market policies.

Club members are not allowed to bring alcohol on City Market property.
Club members are not allowed to bring grills on City Market property; any open flame requires a Fire Marshals Permit and could prove dangerous for our customers.
The Market has zero tolerance for obscene language or gestures directed at City Market staff. If this occurs the club will not be invited back to the Market.
If a club brings any type of PA system or music to the Market please be respectful of the vendors and tenants trying to conduct business.

At our event in October, Deb suggested that all events in 2014 would be moved to the park to the west of the Market. Apparently they have changed their minds.

She did mention, too, the problems they had with some clubs during the year and were going to crack down on bad behavior. You can see these issues addressed in the letter.

Could we all start thinking on a date? Does later in the year work well for folks? Share your input so we can get a date nailed down and start working to make this show terrific.

And regarding the problems with car clubs, thanks for not being part of the problem, y'all. We've never had an issue with booze, grilling, loud music, etc... It's wonderful to be a member of a group of nice folks with great taste in cars.

I vote for cooler weather as well. Our October date last year was great. Of course there's no telling what the weather will be like this year, but there is never a guarantee on the weather here in KC!

+1 on later in the year. MITO is Oct. 23-26, so we may want to avoid that weekend.

I would vote for early in the year or later so that the weather is cooler. However, do not put much weight on my vote as to the fact that I am not too sure if or how I can make it. Sunday's are not usually good for me being that I go to church on Sunday and could not make it until the afternoon and it does not sound as if I could get in at that point.

We have charged ourselves with an aggressive agenda: lots of "track" time with several classes, gymkana or autocross, raffle and/or poker run, some type of rally, and a car show.

MINIs from KC and CORN, Triumphs, Cobras, MGs and MG-As, and Jags.
10 Ferraris, including an F 40

The only way I could drive the Jag down there is if I buy new wheels and tires.....the tires on it are 35 years old, and in-town use only!

I'm going to plan to be there for this one, but I'll be in the MINI.....

Any word yet on the parades and such that we participate in each year? I'm waiting to hear about this years Mushroom festival and the 4th of July parade.
