Private Message vs. E-mail

Post by KangaMINI »

I recently received an inquiry as to tell the difference between a PM (private message) and an E-mail. Since all email originating from this website is from dispatch@kcminiclub.com it is sometimes difficult to tell. I figured I would share that information here as well, in the hopes that it will be helpful to others.

Private Messages

There are two distinguishing features for a private message notification.
  1. The subject of the message will always be "New private message has arrived", and;
  2. The body of the message will resemble the following:
    Hello <user receiving the PM>,

    You have received a new private message from "<user sending the PM>" to your account
    on "Kansas City MINI Enthusiasts" with the following subject:

    <PM subject line goes here>

    You can view your new message by clicking on the following link:

    <Direct URL to KCME to read the PM>

    You have requested that you be notified on this event, remember that you
    can always choose not to be notified of new messages by changing the
    appropriate setting in your profile.
To read or reply to a PM you must be logged into the KCME website, using the PM interface.

User-generated e-mail

There are two distinguishing features for user-generated e-mails from the KCME web site:
  1. The subject of the message will be whatever subject the sender choses to put as the subject
  2. The body of the email will resemble the following:
    Hello <username receiving the e-mail>,

    The following is an e-mail sent to you by <person sending you the e-mail> via your account on
    "Kansas City MINI Enthusiasts". If this message is spam, contains abusive
    or other comments you find offensive please contact the webmaster of the
    board at the following address: dispatch@kcminiclub.com

    Include this full e-mail (particularly the headers). Please note that the
    reply address to this e-mail has been set to that of <person sending you the e-mail>.

    Message sent to you follows
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    <body of the email>
Please Note:
Using a PM is the only route if you do not wish to reveal your e-mail address on this system.
You can change your e-mail notification settings at any time by via the User Control Panel and clicking on the Board Preferences tab.
