The Great Snowstorm of 2011

It's 3 pm on Tuesday February 2, 2011

We've got about 1 foot on the ground here in OP and it's really starting to come down now!

Rose has to go to work, like the doctors, hospitals and nurses that she serves. The Audi made it up the hill in front of our house, although it took her a couple of tries to get going out of the driveway, but the main roads have been plowed so I think she'll be OK. I don't think there's any way I can go get her in the MINI if she gets stuck tonight at 2am on her way home tho. There'll be 2' or more down by then, at this rate.

So, how much did you get?

We've got about a foot or so up here. Don't think I'm going to be making it to work tomorrow either. :( My road hasn't been plowed yet and the snow is up to my knees.

The company our HOA uses to clear snow (maint. provided community) was out last night at 10pm to clear our townhouse community. They also hit the road which is unusual for them. So, I had a plowed subdivision this morning. Made it to work from Lees Summit to Olathe in the Mini without any issue. Granted, nobody was on the road, just a few SUV's and me. I felt a little out of place. :)

Here are a few from my 'hood....

She managed to get the Audi into the driveway - just - before she got high centered. I spent about 3 hours this morning digging the car out so I could get it into the garage and defrost it a bit. The wheels were so packed with snow I almost couldn't get it to stop in the garage! I've got a small heater on the front wheels right now, one's defrosted, the other's in the process.....my neighbor and his wife came over and helped me finish the driveway so Rose can get to work tonight - I'm staying home, there's no way the MINI can go up this road till a plow comes and clears a lane...

Holy crap. I'm so glad a snow plow came through and plowed half the road here (although it's the side without mailboxes on it...have a feeling the lazy mail person won't deliver the mail) but I just spent about 2 hours shoveling my half of the driveway and road to get the Mini out to go to work tomorrow. Don't think this paycheck is going to be too great this week >.<

I was more interested in the speed and taking a picture. Very talented!

Well, remember my speedo (like most new MINI's) is 3 mph fast, so I was only 2 over....

Other than that, with a digital camera it's not too hard....

Lol if clubbys are anything like r53's I would wait a bit. I washed mine drove 10 blocks and it looks just as bad again.

What a slap in the face. I don't tip pizza delivery like dining in but that is rediculas. My rule is $2. minimum plus $1. for every $10. worth of pizza. Give or lake a little depending on the service and the weather. Do you deliver in Shawnee? I'll give you a bonus just for driving a MINI :D

Just filled up my tank for the first time in 2 weeks. 237 miles, 11.40 gallons. Only got 20.8mpg driving thru all this snow and cold and slush - all city driving, too.

Ready for warm weather!

My '03 MCS used to drop off badly in cold weather too, although the worst I saw was in the low 23's. My Clubby even with the automatic's been averaging 28 , even thru the nasty stuff - surprised me, it did!

Once it warms up I'll be back in the low to mid 30's.....I'll need it if gas goes to $5 a gallon this summer like it's supposed to.

I get 27mpg in my MCS no matter what the weather. LOL Unless it's ALL highway miles, like on a road trip. Then it's like 35mpg.

If I go by what my OBC tells me, then I'm getting great mileage. However, when I do the math at fill-up, it never seems to work out to what the OBC says. I always get less real miles/gal than the OBC reading.

I don't go by the OBC because then I would be getting awesome gas mileage. LOL

Well, if your speedo is not correctly showing the speed you are traveling why would OBC be correct?

Dave, Im glad to hear that the '03 used to drop bad in the winter as i have noticed the same with my car. Now that all the suspension has been fixed and I fine tuned the alignment, I am now averaging 29+ mpg per tank  It is amazing what a good aligment will do for a car

Walnuts, I feel for you. I had to drive home late in the deep snow that night. Thankfully I had dad's Pathfinder. It found the way with no problem. I can definitely say that i am getting snow tires for the MINI next year.

I've read somewhere that there is a setting in the programming of the OBC where the MPG calculations can be tweaked. I believe that the default settings of the MPG calculators are set on the optimistic side.

One day I hope to play around with that programming and set my MPG calculator closer to reality. You have to get into programming mode to do it, which can be a dangerous place to experiment -- no telling what kind of stuff I could screw up there.

I have to say, I have been impressed with the way our Mini has handled in the ice/snow/etc this winter! There were times when the snow was just a shade *too* high for it to get out and about, but it still did a great job (altho, I think my husband would like to take credit for some of that lol). Looks like we may have one more round of snow to deal with soon too *uggh*
