Garage Day Anyone?

I've got a few things that need to be done on my Clubman including:

Brakes
Brake Fluid
Coolant
Air Filter
Cabin Air Filter
Oil Change

If anyone is interested I could host it or we could go to the DIY shop. The big thing for me is the coolant and brake fluid which are a little past their due dates.

I'm available any time over the next couple of weeks. I'll be gone the first week of July.....

Do you have all the tools and jacks and such we'd need?

Be sure you get the right coolant, and I always recommend using the factory oil filter (I use MINI oil too, since I'm already at the parts counter) Mention you're in the club and get 10% off on your parts. They have a deal on brakes too, pads, rotors sensors screws etc, ask about it if you haven't already got your parts.

That reminds me. I need to return your pulley puller and tensioner tool.

I have a trolly jack and four jackstands. I use a 2x4 on the trolly jack to be able to put the jack stand on the jack pad. I have an allen sockets set and metric socket set along with a breaker bar and torque wrench. I have the catch cans for fluids.

The oil might get changed this week seeing that it has been in for a little over six months (Yeah, yeah, yeah I know about the mileage but I do it anyways twice a year regardless).

I will need, however, the brake bleeder and scan tool to reset the service indicator along with the rear brake piston reset tool. (Funny how BMW is a parts and tool company that makes cars)

As far as fluids go, I was going to get the Pentosin PENTOFROST NF coolant/antifreeze from O'Reilly. We're putting that in the M3 and I believe Pentosin is the OEM fluid manufacturer for BMW. I could be wrong. I have the BMW oil from Baron. Brake fluid might come from TireRack in the form of ATE SuperBlue. That will depend if I order the brakes from them or not. Baron sells the OEM fluid at a reasonable price, too.

Is it worth waiting until the brake sensor goes of to change the brakes? I figured that since brake fluid was being changed out, it would make sense to reset the brake piston to prevent low brake fluid in the future and prevent contamination of fluids.

I would hope it's not just my car. If so, I would just borrow the tools.

I don't change brake pads unless they're worn out......fluid is another matter, it should be done every couple of years. I think that coolant is fine. ATE is fine for brake fluid.

I don't think you need a scan tool to reset service indicators on our 2009 cars, it's done with the turn signal button thru the computer - check your owner's manual. BMW does it differently.....

I usually prefer to hold shop days at my shop, where I'm confident I have every tool we'd need. Nothing worse than trying to do a job and finding in the middle of it you don't have what you need, but if you're confident you have everythign except the special tools like the brake bleeder, then your place it is. Do you have room for two cars inside or just one? or none?

I don't need to do anything to my car at this time.

Dimini needs to change his lower control arm and front sway bar bushings, and Boxer still has some rear bushings he wants to change at some point.

Anyone else?

I have room for one car since the M3 is on stands in the garage right now. Depending on when I can get that finished up I could hold the day but it might be another week or two.

Well, let's just set one up for my shop then.....pick a date, preferably a Sat in case we need parts - Baron's parts is open till 3 on Sat. too

We're not going to Hooter's for lunch tho.....that food was barely food, and the girls don't pay a lick of attention to old farts like me and Davester! :? :x

Give me the date and I'll start a shop day thread.

Don't forget, new guy brings the Krispy Kremes and coffee!

Is this on for tomorrow?

If so, how early is too early?

I'm thinking about finally getting around to installing the short shifter I bought for my Mazdaspeed Miata. This would give me incentive to get it done.

I never heard back from the OP, and Davester's relative who needed brakes can't come, so IowaMini's car may be the only one needing work.

If we don't hear from Clubby today, let's plan for another day, OK?

Alternatively, we can do it at his place if he's amenable.

Clubby? You there?

OK -- and there's nothing urgent about my Miata. It can wait.

Sorry I have been busy. My mom was in the hospital but is recovering nicely. It would be great if we could go for another day since I haven't had a chance to pick up parts.
Thanks

i might be able to attend depending on the date. i still need to change my brake fluid, tranny fluid and engine oil. another thought... we could make this a detail/wash day as well and maybe get some more attenders that wouldn't normally come to a garage day.

I think a wash day sounds spiffy! As long as we all add to the kitty to help defray the cost of the H2O usage.Right Dave???

OR do it at a self-service car wash with shade nearby. That way the cost of water will not effect Daves bill at all. Does anybody know of one? :D

I doubt the water bill would amount to much, but we'd definitely need some shade to work in - and some cooler temps. I don't "do" outside when it's close to 100*

My driveway's nicely shaded in the afternoon, but since it faces east/southeast - not so much in the AM!

There's a pretty big SS car wash at 103rd and Metcalf, no shade nearby that I remember tho.
