Kansas City MINI Enthusiasts

I will have a friend passing thru town somewhere either on the 7th or 8th - he'll be on his way home to Atlanta from MMW 2015 in Abbotsford, BC.

That's right, Atlanta to BC and back, in a classic Mini - about 6,000 miles round trip!

Anyway, I don't know what time or if he'll just be passing thru or stopping for overnight, but I'd love to greet him with a nice contingent of Classics to welcome him to KC. We'll either do lunch or dinner depending on his plans, so try to leave those days open if you can. I'll post up firm plans once he's able to give them to me over the next few days....

Here he is leaving his driveway in Atlanta on the 23rd, tonight he's somewhere between Boise and Seattle, tomorrow he'll be in Abbotsford and the meet starts Monday.



So far the car's run pretty well with no real issues, even tho he's been driving thru 100+ temps every day since he left. I'm sure he'll have some great stories to relate once he gets here!

Wifi at the hotel is terrible.

Made it to Abbotsford a day early. Got an early start on the final day at 5:30. Several of the places on my route were looking for a high of 110, so if I can get by those places before then I am good with leaving early. I still had to slow to 55 on several of the uphill climbs to ensure the engine did not gain too much heat. The extra heater core under the hood it's job to keep that under control. Sure can tell the roads that the truckers have to use theirs chains on, the surface is chewed up and noisy. Also the main lane used by the trucks has a center ridge that is just wider than the mini track. The first time I got into one I thought something on the car was way bad the way I was weaving all over the lane. If the highway patrol was looking I just knew I was going to pulled over.

Today I need to find a car wash and then check the valves just to feel good about them. Car did good. Most of my time I was cruising at 72-74 mph. Car seems to like that speed, engine and ride. Average of 33 mpg for the trip so far. I use a bag of ice every 2 hours or so as the seat cooler is running all the time I am driving. I can feel the heat and know that it's hot but I am not sweating at all.

OK, I finally heard from Willie B, he's on the road headed home and will pass thru KC Monday. How about we meet up for dinner at Jack Stack at 95th and Metcalf for dinner Monday evening? Right now I'm guessing 6 pm, but it will depend on when he hits town.

So, who can come?

Hope you get his car sorted so he make it on home to Atlanta, nice that you were able to go help and had the tow bar!

No joy......Brad had to be home in Atlanta by tomorrow night and while the new part did get here sometime after lunch, he decided to Uhaul it home rather than take chance on it failing somewhere where he could not get help.

Once he's home and not under a time constraint he'll figure it out and get it rolling again....

I am still very impressed with how far he made it.
