KC British Gala Saturday, 17 May

Post by MiniManiac »

I found this upcoming event for the KC Miniacs. We can keep this as an informal event or we can add it to the club calendar. It is the British Gala (17 May 10am - 4pm) at the Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral. There will be food, vendors and a British car display. I plan on taking the classic.

This looks like fun. I should sign up for this. My British flagged Mini would definitely stand out.

Edit: Just signed up for it. Looks like a lot of fun.

Just talked with the organizer for the event earlier today. He would love more minis coming. It's free for the car show. He said he forgot to remove the registration fee requirement from last year. So if you have a few hours to spare that day bring your mini out and display it and enjoy the fun.

Thanks for sharing. As it happens the joint KCME/Central Iowa MINI Club event is the next day -- Sunday, May 18. A weekend of MINI and British fun!

I doubt they would object. It's still a Mini.

I want to bring this one back up to the top. I talked with the organizer and he is looking for more Minis and some MINIS - LOL. Seriously, there are only two signed up and he wants/needs more. Due to the final game of our soccer season, I will most likely not make this event. Pass it along!!

In the past, the club has stuck with one gathering a month in the "Events and Announcements" area. In the warm weather months, that has been cruise-ins. The Grassroots area of the forum has been for everything else. The original purpose of that was so that there was one event that was appealing to most (no need to snazzy up a car for a show, no need to drive on a track, family friendly, etc..., just a simple gathering for all) and so that more people could be involved in planning events and get togethers that were sometimes more specialized. If we need to reconsider this, I'd encourage you to start a thread in the lounge and ask for input, Zack. Perhaps it is something we need to take a look at?

Right now we've got events on the club website calendar reaching into the fall. I'm not sure how to best keep them organized on the site, on FB, on the forum, so more people see it. I know work is also being done on starting a once-a-month e-mail newsletter for any that choose to sign up. Once a month folks will get an email reminding them of upcoming events. If any of you have more input or ideas, start a thread in the lounge. Your input and direction is always welcome here. :)

(Done hijacking, Seth. Off to cross-promote this event a bit...)

No worries from me. I am just pimping the event. It makes sense to leave it here, which is why I put here to begin with.

Well you can't put up a thread in the events and announcements. Otherwise, I would have. There is no button to press. I wasn't stepping on anyone's feet with regards to event planning, was making a suggestion. Not a very good suggestion. Seth said only two Mini's are signed up, mine and his so far. That's what the event organizer told me. With him not being able to come that will leave one Mini...err...MINI. I am hoping more will show up but at the moment it looks like I will be the Only MINI at the event.

Dude, relax. The event is over a month away. I just happen to know that I have an event that conflicts. Other folks will wait a bit longer to make a decision.

If you are the only one, then maybe you can win the class :) :) :) :)

Lol. It's not that kind of car show. The event coordinator told me there will be lots of other cars, Land Rovers, Jags, Austins, MGs, etc... But also food, cultural events, dancing, etc.

Well I won't mention it anymore unless I hear another car has signed up. At the moment, I will have the most British looking Mini Cooper at the event. Good enough for me. :-)

This was pretty fun. Not many other makes of cars but the Mini's had a great turn out. If anything, it was a fun afternoon hanging out with everyone...And sitting in all 3 Classic mini's.

Thanks, MiniManiac, for sharing the info on this. It was a fun day!

I did take a couple pics, I'll try to share later. I know I missed getting a pic with MiniDrama and V.W. but think I got the rest of the Minis/MINIs. Nice showing!

I think next year just make it a Mini club event and then we will fill that parking lot. Just a thought. Not a lot of cars but it was fun.

Exactly. What kind of bs is that? Other than the wings, that car is a total POS.

My buddies dad bought one when they first came out. I remember us getting yelled at for putting finger prints on it - LOL.

Do you remember seeing one that was painted at the AllBrit the year DeLorean was the guest marque?

As I recall, the DeLoreans were made in Ireland.
